Casio has announced two models in the 'GCW-B5000UN' series, which fully adopt carbon materials while inheriting the square design of the first model, as one of the G-SHOCK 40th anniversary commemorative models.

In 1983, G-SHOCK released the 'DW-5000C' as its first model, pioneering a new field of toughness watches. Constantly pursuing toughness, G-SHOCK has increasingly adopted carbon in recent years, following resin and metal materials. Carbon offers approximately seven times the hardness and lightness of stainless steel. Now, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of G-SHOCK's birth, two models in the '5000' series, which inherits the original square design, have been released with carbon construction, achieving both strength and lightness in the 'GCW-B5000UN'.

To create complex shapes, different types of carbon are used for the case, bezel, bracelet, and clasp, achieving a weight reduction of 61%, from approximately 167 grams for the stainless steel full-metal model 'GMW-B5000D' to approximately 65 grams. The bezel and bracelet use forged carbon, which offers high molding flexibility, while the clasp uses layered carbon, known for its bending resistance. Additionally, the monocoque case, integrated with the case back, is made of carbon fiber-reinforced resin.

The design draws a parallel between the ever-evolving G-SHOCK and the expanding universe, with motifs of the Big Bang and planets. Two models are available: a basic black and a purple created through mixed-color molding. The case back is engraved with the 40th-anniversary logo by graphic artist Eric Haze, adding a special touch to these models.
