A 21st-anniversary model of the "Bubble" featuring a domed sapphire crystal.

In tribute to the birth of Corum's iconic "Bubble" watch collection, characterized by its large, bubble-like domed crystal, and the dynamic individual who created this timepiece, the "Bubble 47 X-Ray," which follows the design concept of the original model, will be released in August 2021.
Its defining features are the large domed sapphire crystal, paying homage to the roots of the "Bubble" collection, and the realistic skull motif positioned at the center of the dial. The highly designed skull exudes a mysterious yet provocative allure. While the sapphire crystal slightly distorts the dial, it glows green in the dark, ensuring legibility day or night.

Corum first unveiled the "Bubble" collection in 2000. The design, featuring an oversized case with a thick, domed sapphire crystal as the watch face, was conceived by Severin Wunderman, the brand's owner at the time. Inspired by a experimental diving watch from the 1960s with a massive curved glass, this sapphire crystal magnified and distorted the dial like a lens. Wunderman combined this optical illusion with skillful design and original themes, leaving its mark on watchmaking history.
Among these early "Bubble" collection pieces was a watch featuring a skull motif on the dial, conceptualized around life and death, and "Día de Muertos," a Latin American celebration for joyfully remembering the deceased. This was Wunderman's idea, who was hidden in a school for the blind during the Nazi occupation of Poland and later emigrated to Los Angeles at the age of ten.

Wunderman, who favored the unusual and unconventional, aimed to shatter and reconstruct the established notions of watchmaking with the launch of the "Bubble." This new model faithfully embodies the "boldness" and "uniqueness" of the "Bubble's" original concept.
This timepiece is powered by an automatic movement (Caliber CO 082) with a 42-hour power reserve. The stainless steel case is treated with black PVD, and the case back features a sapphire crystal for viewing the movement. The domed front and back crystals are treated with an anti-reflective coating to ensure legibility. The strap combines a fabric material with an alligator-like finish, featuring neon green stitching and a rubberized underside. It is offered in a limited edition of 88 pieces worldwide.
