A New Flying Tourbillon Model
The 2010 "S.I.H.H." new watch exhibition is currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland. Cartier, which presents its releases at this event, has sent OPENERS some information on its new models. Let's take an early look at a selection of them.
Cartier has undergone remarkable changes in watchmaking in recent years. It will be fresh in your memory that Cartier recently declared itself a manufacture, developing and producing its own movements. This year, as expected, Cartier has unveiled works that promise a new step forward as a manufacture, including models equipped with entirely in-house movements.
One of the new models we've received information on is the "Rotonde de Cartier Skeleton FlyingTourbillon Watch"This model is equipped with the Caliber 9452 MC, a flying tourbillon with a Geneva Seal, and is a new addition to the three models announced last year: "Tank Américaine," "Santos 100," and "Ballon Bleu de Cartier." While retaining Cartier's classic style with blued steel sword-shaped hands and a cabochon crown, this year's new model features an openwork design that serves as both the dial and the indices. It's a piece that adds a bold new face and the latest movement to the classically-styled "Rotonde de Cartier."
The Main Piece: A "Masculine" and "Wild" Watch
Meanwhile, the elegant ladies' watch "Captive de Cartier XL" also makes its debut. This large 50mm round watch features uniquely designed lugs, an off-center dial, and bar indices, creating a strikingly modern impression. Amidst its futuristic appearance, the lustrous silver dial and refined 'toile brossée' finish exude the characteristic Cartier elegance.
Another new release, featured in a movie filmed at the La Chaux-de-Fonds workshop, is this year's "main piece." While its full details have yet to be revealed, Cartier describes it as a "masculine" and "wild" watch. We eagerly anticipate how Cartier's heritage style will be expressed in the world of mechanical watches this time. The arrival of this new main piece only heightens our expectations.
