The Captivating World of the Masterpiece, Calibre 101
The World's Smallest Mechanical
Movement Makes Its Debut
Jaeger-LeCoultre's Calibre 101, the world's smallest mechanical movement, has inspired a new collection of six models this year.
The Calibre 101 was born in the 1920s. As pocket watches began to fade and women started to enter the workforce, Jaeger-LeCoultre focused on wristwatches for women. Building on the popular Duoplan of 1924, they began designing and in 1929, created the world's smallest mechanical movement. Even after 80 years, this movement is still called a "masterpiece" and is known for its place in Jaeger-LeCoultre's history. Housing 98 components within a mere 0.2 cm³ and a thickness of 3.4mm, and equipped with a balance wheel oscillating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, few watchmakers can assemble the Calibre 101, with only 50 pieces produced annually. This precious movement is primarily used inhigh jewelrywatches, adorning the wrists of select women, including Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
The New Creations That
Fulfill Every Desire for Calibre 101
The new models announced this year tell a story from the past to the future of this movement. From a revival of the popular Art Deco style of 1938, to secret watches adorned with abundant, fresh diamonds, and high jewelry watches showcasing the technical prowess of wrapping the wrist as smoothly as silk, a truly diverse range of designs has been unveiled, spanning from classical to modern. This year also sees the introduction of a men's model, housing the Calibre 101 within a Grande Reverso case. This watch, where the movement appears to float in the center of the case, is sure to capture the hearts of not only women who lovejewelry watches, but also men who wish to appreciate the movement itself.
These new creations offer the chance to enjoy the precious movement, the brilliance of exquisite jewelry, and the masterful craftsmanship evident in every detail—a collection that encapsulates the full charm of the Calibre 101.
