Sharing Values with the "Superfast" Collection, Inspired by Racing Cars
Chopard has been appointed the Official Timing Partner of Porsche Motorsport, lending its support to Porsche's triumphant return to the premier LMP1 category of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race with the "919 Hybrid".
Chopard has long been associated with the world of motorsport. Since 1988, it has been the official timekeeper for the Mille Miglia, "the world's most beautiful motor race," and since 2000, for the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. In 2012, the brand unveiled the "Superfast" collection, featuring in-house movements and inspired by racing cars. Its sharp design and the exceptional technical prowess of a manufacture brand have earned widespread acclaim from watch and automotive enthusiasts alike, a fact still fresh in our memory.
Meanwhile, Porsche unveiled the "919 Hybrid" at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. This hybrid machine is designed to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the top-tier "LMP1" category, marking Porsche's comeback to LMP1 racing after an absence since 1999.
This partnership, born from shared values of a constant pursuit of high performance and excellence, is a natural fit. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of the Chopard Group and a collector of historic racing cars himself, holds a deep passion for Porsche's legendary racing history. "Passion and high performance are the hallmarks of Porsche, and these are the values that allow us to feel a complete synergy with Porsche," he commented.
The "919 Hybrid" is scheduled to compete in eight races during the 2014 season, beginning with the race at Silverstone Circuit in the UK on April 10th, followed by the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Chopard will also serve as a partner to the Manthey team, which will race the Porsche works team in the GTE class, in addition to supporting the LMP1 car.
