A Fusion of Ceramic Materials
The "Laureato," designed with architectural principles, debuted in the 1970s. It was a series that played a significant role in the burgeoning trend of sports elegance during that era.
Its distinctive details, including the integrated, original case design and the polished octagonal bezel, remain unchanged. The collection's revival at the 2017 SIHH is still fresh in our memory.
The "Laureato Skeleton" was born in July 2017 as an addition to the "Laureato" line. Its openworked movement, celebrated for its beauty, reigns as the pinnacle of the collection. Now, the "Laureato Skeleton Ceramic" joins the lineup, offering a striking presence.
Ceramic is known for being lightweight yet robust, and gentle on the skin. However, its inherent hardness makes it challenging to shape. For this model, the bezel and bracelet are meticulously milled from solid blocks of ceramic to achieve the desired form and texture.
The surface is finished with two types of polishing – polished and satin – creating a texture that belies its ceramic composition.
The self-winding movement powering this timepiece is the in-house Caliber GP01800-0006. The skeletonized movement was designed by the brand's watchmakers, with the intricate openworking meticulously executed by skilled artisans. The components are treated with a black PVD coating to match the case's color, completing an all-black aesthetic.
Particularly noteworthy are the balance wheel at 12 o'clock and the mainspring within the barrel at 5 o'clock, allowing for a full appreciation of the mechanical watch's beating heart. Meanwhile, the rotor is carved from a solid block of 18K pink gold, creating a beautiful contrast with the case.
The tips of the hour and minute hands are coated with luminescent material for excellent legibility. The watch also features a small seconds subdial at 10 o'clock, 10 ATM water resistance, and a 54-hour power reserve, embodying Girard-Perregaux's signature blend of practicality and refinement.
