Born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) invented the twin-barrel marine chronometer, capable of highly accurate time measurement, in 1815. This led to its adoption by the French Navy, earning Abraham-Louis Breguet the title of "Horloger de la Marine Royale (Royal Navy Watchmaker)." For watchmakers of this era, crafting chronometers for the navy, which represented the pinnacle of cutting-edge technology, was the highest honor. Records indicate that between 1815 and 1823, 22 high-precision clocks were delivered to the navy, rated as marine chronometers, a testament to the vital national value of Breguet's unique genius and skill.

In honor of this deep relationship with the navy, Breguet launched the sporty "Marine" series in 1990, characterized by its robust construction and 50-meter water resistance. It now offers 100-meter water resistance, with a range of models including chronographs, the "Marine Royale" with 300-meter water resistance, and ladies' models.
