Breguet Celebrates 250 Years with the "Classique Quantième Perpétuel 7327"
BREGUET | Breguet Classique Subscription 2025
In 2025, Breguet celebrates its 250th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone year, the new "Classique Subscription 2025" was unveiled in Paris. The legendary "Subscription" pocket watch, created by Breguet in the late 18th century, is reborn as a wristwatch.
Reimagining the Maison's nascent pocket watch for the modern era
The "Subscription" is a pocket watch developed around 1797 by Abraham-Louis Breguet. It featured a simple single-hand structure, a highly legible white enamel dial, and a robust movement.
Beyond its quality as a timepiece, its sales method is also noteworthy. Customers confirmed their orders by paying a quarter of the price upfront, a system that allowed the workshop to secure the necessary materials for production. This "Subscription" model, with approximately 700 units produced over 20 years, became the foundation for the brand's growing reputation. It was a product that symbolized the ingenuity of Breguet, a pioneer in marketing.
The "Classique Subscription 2025" unveiled today inherits the spirit of the original model while blending contemporary technology and aesthetics.
The appearance is striking, with a white Grand Feu enamel dial reminiscent of Breguet's 18th-century creations. Delicate Breguet numerals mark the hours, and a railway-style minute track, the "chemin de fer," enhances legibility. A single Breguet hand, meticulously finished in blued steel, is centrally placed, creating a design that is both simple and easy to read.
From the center of the dial down to the 6 o'clock position, the "Souscription" logo, serial number, and a secret signature in diamond points are inscribed. All of these are hand-engraved using a precision tool called a pantograph, which Breguet himself used, serving as a measure against counterfeiting.
The case is crafted from newly developed "Breguet Gold." This proprietary alloy, an 18K material combining gold, silver, copper, and palladium, possesses a subtly warm, blond-pink hue that lends a gentle impression. While maintaining a classical facade, the modern ergonomic design ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist.
Furthermore, the case band features a satin finish with fluting, and the lugs are designed with a more natural curve, contributing to a refined aesthetic. The design achieves a balance of classic elegance and contemporary sophistication.
The watch is powered by the newly developed self-winding Caliber VS00. This movement boasts a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and a power reserve of 4 days (approximately 96 hours), achieving a high level of precision and endurance.
The hairspring is made of "Nivachron™," a non-magnetic material primarily composed of titanium, offering excellent resistance to magnetism, shocks, and temperature variations. Additionally, the mainplate and bridges are finished with a shot-blasted treatment, allowing for a visual appreciation of the mechanical beauty alongside the blued steel screws and rubies.
At the center of the movement, an engraving of Abraham-Louis Breguet's handwritten message from his advertising pamphlets serves as a symbolic representation of the founder's philosophy being passed down to the modern timepiece.
A special 250th-anniversary presentation box has also been created to house the watch. Inspired by the Moroccan leather cases actually used by Breguet in the 18th century, this box features a grained calfskin exterior with "Breguet 250 ans" hot-stamped in gold. The interior is lined with a silk-blend fabric in blue, and the vertical storage structure for the watch evokes the era of pocket watches.
The back of the box is adorned with an escutcheon shaped like Breguet's early logo, making it not just a storage case but a collector's item of significant value.
The "Classique Subscription 2025" is a monumental model that conveys 250 years of history and spirit into the present day. Breguet's reliable craftsmanship, meticulous design, and exceptional aesthetic sense have been cultivated over a long history and will continue to be built upon... It is a timepiece that represents the Maison's future.
