Celebrating the Founder's Bicentennial

Iconic Models Meet Ultimate Complications

2015 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, the brand's founder and former court watchmaker to the Kingdom of Saxony. The booth, adorned with the number "200," paid tribute to the achievements of this great predecessor, reaffirming the profound depth of German watchmaking history. A minute repeater complication has been added to the "Zeitwerk," a mechanical digital time display model inspired by the five-minute clock at the Dresden Semperoper, which Adolph Lange once created with his mentor. This memorial year was marked by the brand's relentless progress, impressively showcased by this new timepiece.

Zeitwerk Minute Repeater

The Brand's First Decimal Minute Repeater

The minute repeater, which chimes the current time when a button is pressed, is considered one of the highest mechanical watch complications, alongside the tourbillon. This complication has now been integrated into the "Zeitwerk," one of the brand's signature models, known for its unique digital hour and minute display.

The watch is equipped with the in-house Cal. L043.5, developed specifically for this model. It features a rare yet intuitive decimal repeater mechanism, where low tones indicate the hours, double tones signify 10-minute intervals, and high tones mark the minutes – a departure from the conventional 15-minute intervals.

Particular attention has been paid to the acoustics, with watchmakers renowned for their keen hearing meticulously adjusting the case and movement to refine the resonance of the two hammers and gongs. A masterpiece watch has been born, befitting the memorial of the founder's birth.

Lange 1

The Brand's Icon Undergoes a Major Renewal

In the founder's bicentennial year, the "Lange 1," the brand's first revival model and now an undisputed classic, has been subtly yet significantly refreshed. The most notable change is the updated movement. The new Cal. L121.1 is the company's 50th in-house movement. While retaining the core specifications, it features an enlarged balance wheel and incorporates a precision adjustment mechanism with a C-shaped eccentric cam.

Furthermore, the distinctive outsize date display now instantly advances the discs around midnight. The movement thickness has been reduced, resulting in a 0.2mm thinner case. The bezel has been slightly refined, and although the case diameter remains unchanged, the dial and the watch itself appear larger. The excellent original design remains intact, signifying the evolution of the brand's icon.

In 2015, a new case variation in 18K pink gold was introduced for the "Datograph UP/DOWN." The warm, skin-friendly pink gold, paired with a black dial, creates a luxurious aesthetic, adding a refined touch to this celebrated timepiece.
