A New World Record is Set
The World's Thinnest Automatic Tourbillon

This marks the fourth world record. Bulgari has introduced world's thinnest models in 2014, 2016, and 2017 with the 'Octo Finissimo' line, and this year, 2018, they have added the 'Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic' to their lineup, featuring an automatic tourbillon movement just 1.98mm thick.

Featuring a Peripheral Rotor to Showcase the Tourbillon

Bulgari has set three world records for "world's thinnest" since 2014. In 2018, they set their fourth world record with their new model: an automatic tourbillon movement measuring a mere 1.95mm in thickness.

The model equipped with this movement is the 'Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic'. The case thickness is also an astonishing 3.95mm, making it so thin you might forget you're wearing it.

The previous three world records were set by the 'Octo Finissimo Tourbillon' in 2014, the 'Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater' in 2016, and the 'Octo Finissimo Automatic' in 2017. Including the latest, all have been challenges in thinness.

The Caliber BVL288, which powers the flying tourbillon, is developed in-house by Bulgari. While automatic movements typically use a center or micro-rotor, the BVL288 employs a "peripheral rotor." Peripheral means surrounding, and this design features a ring-shaped rotor on the outer edge of the movement. This rotor winds the mainspring as it rotates.

By not covering the movement and positioning the rotor on the periphery, the thickness is reduced. This allows for a thinness comparable to manual-winding models. The choice of this rotor system contributes to achieving the 1.95mm thin automatic movement. A particular advantage of the peripheral rotor is that it does not obscure the tourbillon, allowing its intricate beauty to be admired at all times.
