An Enduring Form Born from the Golden Ratio (1)
Born in 1968, the "Golden Ellipse" celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, PATEK PHILIPPE has added two new models to its 2018 collection. Among them, the jumbo-sized model, pictured here, stands out as a new regular production piece.

An Intriguing Roundness: Simple Yet Distinctive
Indeed, this model possesses a remarkably simple shape, yet it holds a certain captivating allure.
Its understated presence, eschewing a display of rich specifications, conveys a sense of purity. As a slim, two-hand dress watch, it naturally complements suits and jackets, but its enigmatic roundness lends it a unique character that invites pairing with casual attire as well.
After all, "enigmatic" is the highest compliment. Isn't it? Mystery is inherently attractive. It's precisely the unknown that draws people in.
The Golden Ellipse boasts the second-longest history in the PATEK PHILIPPE lineup, following the brand's ultimate icon, the Calatrava. Its distinctive form, a fusion of a circle and a rectangle, draws inspiration from the golden ratio (1:1.6181) discovered by ancient Greek mathematicians. Yet, even setting aside the complex theory, its characteristics—being "thin," "flat," and "rounded"—exude a subtle yet powerful individuality.
Moreover, its status as a model known only to those in the know adds to its noble appeal, which is quite fitting.
In fact, the Golden Ellipse is the thinnest series in PATEK PHILIPPE's current lineup, with a case thickness of just 5.9mm.

The jumbo size, with its pronounced flatness, visually accentuates this slimness. Within the Golden Ellipse family tree, it is the second model from the right, a model measuring W34.5 x H39.5mm that debuted in 2008.
This new release also comes in the jumbo size. The warm hue of the rose gold is elegantly complemented by the ebony black dial, but the jumbo size adds a bolder touch. The balance of its form and color contrast strikes with a sharp, decisive impact. Incidentally, matching cufflinks are also available in the same collection.

Anniversary Limited Edition Harnessing Geneva's Tradition
This is the limited edition model, with only 100 pieces produced, utilizing Geneva's traditional handcraftsmanship, a technique now practiced by fewer artisans. The white gold dial features hand-engraved swirling patterns, filled with black enamel. You can also see the Calatrava cross engraved around the center of the hour markers.
The case is made of platinum. This is a rare model that combines precious materials with exquisite craftsmanship. It also comes with cufflinks, which are not sold separately but are included with the watch.
This handcraftsmanship is a testament to PATEK PHILIPPE's dedication to nurturing talent for the preservation of its techniques. The industry contributions are realized in these products, bearing fruit.
The solid nuance of platinum is also well-suited to expressing the unique form of the Golden Ellipse. Its graceful curves and moderated volume give it a sharper appearance, which seems to be a characteristic unique to this material.
These artistic interpretations of the Golden Ellipse possess a truly wonderful character.
