Elegant, Yet Tough
The 'Marine Torpilleur' is a new series from Ulysse Nardin, first unveiled in Japan in July 2017. 'Torpilleur' is French for 'destroyer,' referring to agile vessels. It also denotes a pocket watch-style marine chronometer exclusively permitted for ship captains, a fitting name for Ulysse Nardin's deep connection to the ocean.
Its design is characterized by a blend of the elegance and toughness found in vintage military items. The eggshell-colored dial model features Arabic numerals for excellent legibility and an elegant, tan leather strap that harmonizes with the dial. The black dial model, meanwhile, uses orange Arabic numerals. The hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for superior visibility in the dark, and the strap is accented with orange stitching.
The 'Marine Torpilleur Military' is produced in a limited edition of 300 pieces each, with their serial numbers displayed within the small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock. The original design work, with numbers rendered in bold red, is one of its standout features.
Furthermore, the 'C.W.' initials stand for Chronometer Watch. Such details are reminiscent of the vintage military watches designed to meet the stringent regulations of the military.
It is powered by the in-house UN-118 movement. Featuring a patented silicium (silicon) anchor escapement, it requires no lubrication, offers superior antimagnetic and corrosion resistance, and boasts high hardness.
It has also obtained COSC chronometer certification from the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres. Having passed Ulysse Nardin's own six-day precision testing, it meets high performance standards.
The case back is engraved with 'Torpilleur,' the series name. The case sides feature coin-edge fluting, a signature element found on all of Ulysse Nardin's iconic Marine Chronometer series, further reflecting the brand's deep respect for its maritime heritage.
