A New Piece Honoring Classic Watchmaking

This year, the 20th anniversary Montblanc Star Legacy Collection evolves with a design that respects the original proportions while adding further refinement, drawing inspiration from pocket watches manufactured by the watchmaker Minerva from the late 19th to the 20th century.

This piece evokes Minerva's pocket watches with its rounded case, subtly curved on the sides, exuding a classical elegance. The onion-shaped crown, a nod to the spirit of classical fine watchmaking, lends the timepiece a strong presence and ensures comfortable operation. The guilloché decoration surrounding the dial is also meticulously finished.

The term "chronograph" is a portmanteau of the Greek words "chronos" (time) and "graphin" (to write), essentially meaning "time writer." It pays homage to Nicolas Rieussec, a watchmaker to the French court, who is credited with developing the world's first chronograph device in 1821, which read time by dropping ink from a fixed needle onto a rotating disk. The railway minute track employs dot markers, a style primarily used on timepieces from the early 19th to early 20th centuries.

Through the sapphire crystal case back, one can admire the operation of the self-winding manufacture monopusher chronograph movement, Caliber MB R200. The disks for the 60-second and 30-minute counters rotate beneath fixed hands, allowing one to appreciate the same scheme invented by Nicolas Rieussec.

This iconic timepiece is complemented by a blue strap crafted from Sfumato leather, made in Montblanc's leather workshop in Florence.
