The Sports Watch Brand Captivating Attention Now
EDOX is one of the sports watch brands we most highly recommend for men who enjoy marine sports like diving, yachting, and sailing. Its defining characteristics are uncompromising construction, high performance, and a reasonable price.
The brand was known for its advanced waterproof watches from the 1960s, but like many Swiss brands, it faced a downturn in the 1970s and 1980s due to the quartz crisis. However, EDOX re-established its technical prowess even with quartz movements, developing the 'Les Bémonts' collection in 1998, which featured the world's thinnest calendar quartz dress watch at the time. Amidst the watch boom, it gained recognition as an independent brand with superior technical capabilities.
EDOX's leap to global prominence began in 2006 when it became the official timekeeper for the "Class 1" powerboat race, known as the "F1 of the Seas," and launched a major promotional campaign. The iconic 'Class 1' collection was born at this time as a popular watch for marine sports. Since 2009, EDOX has also partnered with the World Rally Championship (WRC), the pinnacle of on-road racing, as its official timing partner. They have expanded their field of activity from sea to land, developing the "WRC" collection with special models featuring rally computer functions for drivers.
Focus on 'Class 1' and 'Grand Ocean'
The biggest highlight at Baselworld 2011 was the minor revision of the 'Class 1 Chronoffshore Automatic,' the most popular chronograph model in the iconic 'Class 1' collection. The case material was changed from titanium to stainless steel, and the bezel was upgraded to scratch-resistant ceramic. This resulted in sharper case edges, lending a more sporty and refined appearance. The case's surface finish also adopted a polish unique to stainless steel, enhancing its presence on the wrist.
The chronographs in the 'Grand Ocean' collection, inspired by yacht racing, have also evolved with minor changes to achieve a more elegant and sophisticated look. Furthermore, this collection now includes the 'Grand Ocean Ultra Slim' as a regular model. This timepiece features a simple design and is powered by the ultra-thin quartz movement 'Caliber 27000,' developed in 1998, with a remarkable thickness of just 1.4mm.
Limited edition models have also been announced for the 'Extreme Pilot' in the 'WRC' collection, which includes a rally computer function. These are must-have timepieces for car enthusiasts, especially those passionate about rallying.

A Marine Sports Chronograph Excelling in Function, Design, and Price
This 500-meter water-resistant mechanical model is perfect for serious divers, those who regularly enjoy marine sports like boating, yachting, and surfing, and men seeking a robust sports chronograph for everyday use. With these specifications, a price in the mid-300,000 yen range is exceptionally reasonable. It stands unmatched in terms of function, design, and price.
