This Year's Star: The Legendary Rectangular "Reverso"
A Variety of Commemorative Models, Including Ultra-Thin Versions, Have Arrived.
Jaeger-LeCoultre, a venerable maison with over a century and a half of history, boasts numerous legends in both technology and style. Unveiled at the Geneva Salon, which began on January 17th, the star of 2011 is the "Reverso," celebrating its 80th anniversary.
By Yasuhito Shibuya
The main focus of this year's new releases is the brand's iconic model, the "Reverso." Developed in 1931 in response to a request from a British officer and polo enthusiast who wanted a wristwatch that could withstand the rigors of the game, it is a historic classic featuring a reversible rectangular case designed to protect the crystal from impacts. This year, for the first time, ultra-thin models for both men and women have been introduced for the "Reverso." The collection has been enhanced with even more dressy and elegant elements.
Watch enthusiasts will also not want to miss the Reverso Minute Repeater model with its unique shutter, and the reissue model that faithfully reproduces the first model from 1931, down to the color of the luminous indices.
Furthermore, the stainless steel models are offered at relatively accessible prices, and are expected to gain further attention.

This is the first ultra-thin Reverso model, featuring a new case sized according to the "golden ratio" of beauty, housing a slim movement. It achieves an unprecedented presence and elegant wearability in Reverso's history. The case alone uses over 50 parts, and new vertical guilloché has been applied to the dial for improved legibility and a more refined aesthetic. The blued hands are also a significant charm.

It is an innovative timepiece featuring cutting-edge mechanisms such as LeCoultre's patented special alloy gongs for beautiful sound and a silent regulator, as well as a sliding metal curtain. When the curtain is slid aside with a fingertip, the mechanism, boasting perfect beauty, is revealed, and it tells the time with a pure chime.
