BRAND HISTORY
In 1874, Georges Edouard Piaget founded his company in La Côte-aux-Fées, in the Swiss Jura Mountains.
Initially specializing in watch movements and manufacturing, Piaget evolved into a fully integrated manufacture in the 1960s. This expansion of its technical capabilities allowed the company to introduce groundbreaking timepieces and eventually develop innovative jewelry collections.
In the 1950s and 60s, Piaget achieved success in developing ultra-thin movements, significantly broadening the design possibilities for watches. Following the creation of coin watches that housed movements within gold coins, and the first jewelry watches incorporating timepieces into rings, brooches, and cufflinks, the company introduced a men's watch in 1957 that would later become one of its signature models under the name "Emperador." Piaget established its reputation as a manufacturer of high-end watches, renowned for their precise mechanisms and refined style.
In 1964, Piaget caused a sensation by releasing watches featuring dials made of semi-precious stones such as lapis lazuli, turquoise, onyx, and tiger's eye. The subsequent cuff-style bracelet watches became iconic symbols of high-end jewelry timepieces.
Piaget has consistently pushed the boundaries of its expertise in both watchmaking and jewelry creation. The brand's philosophy has been to create models that reflect contemporary trends, transforming watches into fashionable accessories, while simultaneously producing pieces that possess timeless appeal. The "Piaget Polo," launched in 1979, was characterized by its avant-garde design and enduring style, and was favored by numerous stars and celebrities.
The "Possession" collection, Piaget's first jewelry line themed around "movement," achieved great success upon its debut in 1990. The subsequent "Limelight" collection exuded the captivating allure of Hollywood actresses adorned in lavish jewelry. The innovative feature of interchangeable straps on the "Miss Protocole," introduced in 1998, further enhanced the popularity of Piaget watches.
Since unveiling the "Altiplano" collection in 1998, featuring ultra-thin watches that blend classic elegance with simple design, Piaget has focused on reinterpreting historical masterpieces from the 1950s with a modern sensibility. The "Emperador" collection, revived in 1999, is another example of this approach.
Piaget celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2004. Despite its long history in watchmaking and jewelry creation, the brand's relentless passion for bold experimentation and innovation continues unabated, remaining a distinctive hallmark of Piaget to this day.
