Fortis Unveils New "Theoresis" Collection

Fortis's traditional lineup has been anchored by three pillars: the "Cosmonauts," official watches for International Space Station missions; the "Flieger" aviation watches; and the "Marine" dive watches. In 2015, however, these were joined by a collection that blends classic design with modern functionality. Inspired by watches from the 1930s and '40s, it offers an accessible price point.

Simple Design Inspired by Classic Models of the Past

Fortis is completing its brand vision by establishing the new "Theoresis" (Earth) collection alongside its existing lines. This collection features four series: "Tycoon," "Nineteen Fortis," "Hedonist," and "Orchestra."

From the "Theoresis" collection, we will highlight three models: the "Tycoon Chronograph" and "Nineteen Fortis," which are particularly noteworthy, and a limited edition created in collaboration with conceptual artist and product designer Rolf Sachs.

The "Tycoon Chronograph" boasts a design that will evoke nostalgia in any antique watch enthusiast. "Tycoon" means "monarch" and this model serves as the core timepiece of the new "Theoresis" collection.

Its functional and balanced dial design, slim bezel and cylindrical case reminiscent of mid-20th century wristwatches, small sub-dials, and mushroom-shaped pushers are all elements of classical design that imbue it with a strong vintage feel. The dial itself is a dome (or 'bombé') shape with a curved drop towards the outer edge, another feature found in classical timepieces. The anthracite dial is elegant and understated, perfectly matching its name. The movement is a reliable mechanism from Dubois Dépraz, a renowned specialist in chronographs. This is a recommended piece for anyone seeking a chronograph that complements a classic style.

A Classic, Simple Model That Complements a Tuxedo

This watch possesses a restrained yet elegant style, reminiscent of a timepiece discovered in an antique shop. Its design draws inspiration from the dress watches Fortis produced in the 1940s, with a thin, rounded bezel that lends it a gentle appearance. Furthermore, the silver dial, featuring a textured pattern towards the center, exudes an elegant ambiance. Dot and Roman numeral indices with a gold finish, slender pencil-shaped hour and minute hands, and a blue seconds hand add a touch of refined luxury and sophistication. Remarkably, despite housing a modern automatic movement, the case is finished to a slim 7.35mm thickness. The antique-like exterior style is executed with exceptional finesse.

Imagining a Geometry Lecture on a Whiteboard

Fortis's limited edition for 2015 is an artistic timepiece produced by conceptual artist Rolf Sachs.

In the past, Sachs designed watches for Fortis such as the "IQ Watch," which resembled writing on a blackboard with chalk, and the "Flippers," featuring a special coating that made the crystal appear frozen. Both captured the hearts of those who appreciate humorous art with dials that perfectly replicated handwritten designs. Now, in 2015, he has created a dial that looks like a whiteboard after a geometry lecture, filled with lines and text drawn in various colored pens. The Fortis logo on this dial was also written by Sachs himself.

The whiteboard area is coated with luminous material, causing the dial itself to glow with a bluish-white light in the dark. Not only the hands, but also the graphics and text appear as a fantastical shadow. The fusion of contemporary, pop art with a wristwatch is truly enjoyable and exceptionally original.
