Original Shoes by Mr. Ferragamo Are a Must-See

Salvatore Ferragamo had a deep interest in Japanese history, art, and culture. In 1951, he released the "Kimo Sandal," inspired by Japanese kimonos and tabi socks, demonstrating a long-standing connection with Japan.

At the event held at Nijo Castle, notable attendees included H.E. Domenico Giorgi, the Italian Ambassador to Japan; Daisaku Kadokawa, Mayor of Kyoto; Dario Nardella, Mayor of Florence; and Ferruccio Ferragamo, Chairman of the Ferragamo Group.

Ferruccio Ferragamo commented, "My father, Salvatore, loved Japan and created the 'Kimo Sandal' inspired by it. For us, this place is like home. We are grateful to be in this magnificent space and pay tribute to this wonderful partnership."
Dario Nardella stated, "Looking towards next year's 150th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Italy and Japan, the cities of Florence and Kyoto bear the mission of bridging cultures," with each speaker sharing their thoughts on the event.

Additionally, the "Archive Shoes & Jewelry Exhibition," open to the public until April 22 (Wednesday), had its preview at this event.
This exhibition, held in the Ninomaru Palace Kitchen (a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan), which is usually not open to the public, features a curated selection of precious items including original and limited-edition reissues of archive shoes personally designed by Salvatore Ferragamo.
Furthermore, the exhibition showcases "Miniature Preziose" from Ferragamo Jewels, which are exquisite reproductions of iconic shoes as 18k gold jewelry pendants.
The venue is draped in canvas mimicking the frescoes of the Spini Feroni Palace, the historic headquarters of Salvatore Ferragamo, creating a space where visitors can experience the connection between Salvatore Ferragamo, Florence, and Kyoto.

Moreover, at Shogunzuka Seiryuden, a fashion show was held featuring the Autumn/Winter collection presented in Milan this year, along with several pieces from the 2016 Pre-Spring collection.
The men's and women's collections by Creative Director Massimiliano Giornetti made their Japanese debut, and actress and model Hikari Mori attended wearing a limited-edition dress commemorating the 50th anniversary of the sister city partnership, making for a glamorous evening.
