Tokyo and New York: A Collaboration of "Being"

Kiyoyo Abe, based in Tokyo, and Richard Aldrich, a contemporary artist based in New York, have merged their respective forms of expression—jewelry and painting—while embracing the differences in their environments. They created works themed around "FANTASY & REALITY."

Richard Aldrich, born and raised in America, brought his ingrained Japanese imagery with his upbringing, and the image of Japan he formed after actually visiting the country. Kiyoyo Abe, born and raised in Japan, projected her image of America, and the image she formed after visiting the country. The artist states that fragments of images born from preconceptions and reality were projected into the works. Abe's jewelry creations are striking, featuring designs that showcase combinations, including pearl necklaces finished with a fresh expression through mixed materials.
