The Encounter of "Kachiiro" (Victory Blue), Beloved by Sengoku Warriors Who Cherished Victory, and G-SHOCK, Which Continues to Evolve in Pursuit of Ultimate Strength and Beauty
"Kachiiro," a deep, rich indigo that Sengoku period warlords favored for their armor and helmets to boost morale, now inspires the design of the new "MRG-B2000B." This model marks the arrival of a new "tough model" in G-SHOCK's premium "MR-G" line, a fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and tradition with the ever-evolving G-SHOCK.

The Significance of MR-G
Thirteen years after G-SHOCK's debut in 1983, the all-metal G-SHOCK, known as "MR-G," was developed. It's correctly pronounced "em-ar-jee," not "Mister G."
From the casual charm of G-SHOCK, a G-SHOCK for adults (Mr.) was born—hence, MR-G is often affectionately called "Mister G," derived from the initials "Mr. G-SHOCK."
Of course, the idea of it being a G-SHOCK for adults is also correct. However, MR-G is an acronym derived from "Majesty" + "Reality" + G-SHOCK. It signifies a collection positioned at the pinnacle of G-SHOCK, striving for the highest standards in strength, beauty, and precision.
This concept has remained unwavering since its inception, continuously evolving and now celebrating its quarter-century anniversary. MR-G has established its position as a luxury line, while G-SHOCK represents the epitome of casual style. Though they share the same origin, they have forged distinct identities. Today, both are globally recognized as leading Japanese watch brands.
The Fusion of "MR-G" and Japanese Tradition: "Kachiiro"
"MR-G" is actively engaged in creating special models inspired by traditional Japanese performing arts and designs. One of the new values born from this "Japan x Japan" collaboration is the adoption of traditional colors.
The pioneer in this endeavor was the "MR-G" "Akazonae" (Red Armor) model, released in 2017. Following this model, the newly chosen traditional color is "Kachiiro" (Victory Blue).
Kachiiro refers to a deep indigo color found in indigo dyeing. Originally written as "褐色" or "搗色," the name "搗色" comes from the dyeing technique of pounding (tsuku) the fabric. The "kachi" in "kachiiro" became associated with "victory" (勝ち), leading warriors to dye their clothes and armor in this color as a charm for "victorious battles."
While the original Kachiiro is a deep navy close to black, this iteration enhances its brilliance and lightness, resulting in a more design-oriented hue. This adds a sharp, refined look.
The dial features a scale pattern (Uroko-mon). Triangles and hexagons serve as barriers to protect sacred spaces and carry a meaning of warding off evil. Like Kachiiro, it is an ancient motif that has long been used in Japan.
Kachiiro was also used in helmets and armor, coloring the Sengoku period. However, this is not just a story from the Sengoku era. It has recently been adopted for the uniforms of the Japan national soccer team, and it continues to be a color that inspires those heading into battle.
The "MRG-B2000B" is a model that captures this "Kachiiro" and the spirit of the samurai.
Delicacy and Robustness Through Advanced Processing Technology
While many samurai helmets and armors using Kachiiro featured gold fittings, the "MRG-B2000B" adopts a design that emphasizes the contrast between Kachiiro and gold, evoking that imagery.
The shape of the indexes is gently curved, inspired by the curvature of a sword. Although made of resin, the material achieves a texture comparable to metal parts through hairline finishing and sharp edges. This is realized through the nano-processing technology at Yamagata Casio, which handles the manufacturing of models in the high-end line. The pattern on the outer circumference of the dial, inspired by fans and folding screens, also utilizes nano-processing technology.
In the Sengoku period, samurai were required to fight as units rather than as individuals. Wearing Kachiiro would have been essential for unifying their spirits. In today's world, our battleground is the business scene. The "MRG-B2000B" can be seen as a model that not only inspires business professionals working as a team but also serves as a protective charm.
The "MRG-B2000B," while possessing the core shock-resistance performance of MR-G, expresses delicate and refined beauty through advanced processing technology. This model can be viewed at "EDGE," the G-SHOCK concept shop available in eight major cities across Japan. Experience the evolution and deepening of "MR-G."
