Cintree Curvex Crazy Hours
Text by OPENERS
Debuting in 2003, the "Crazy Hours" made a significant impact on watch enthusiasts worldwide. This is because the indexes, meant to display the time, are not arranged in a regular order from 1 to 12, but are scattered. It can be said to be a bold and eccentric expression of time, truly characteristic of Franck Muller, overturning the conventional concept of time display.
However, while the arrangement of indexes may seem irregular at first glance, a closer look reveals a clear pattern. For example, starting from "8 o'clock" at the 12 o'clock position, if you skip 1, 6, 11, and 4, the next hour is "9 o'clock" in a clockwise direction. Following "9 o'clock," skipping 2, 7, 12, and 5, the next hour is "10 o'clock." In other words, the correct sequence of indexes is laid out every four positions. The hour hand precisely follows this sequence, jumping over four indexes to display the time in a regular manner.
The Crazy Hours are often housed in Franck Muller's signature "Cintree Curvex" case, but they are also available in the rectangular "Long Island" model. Furthermore, there is a rich variety of dial variations, including the "Color Dreams" shown below, where the colors of each index differ. This design, which further emphasizes the playful spirit of the Crazy Hours, is highly popular.
