Titanium Collection Double Rotor
Text by OPENERS
The first sports model from Perrelet, it boasts 100m water resistance. While the case is crafted from lightweight titanium, a challenging process is employed to achieve a beautiful contrast through distinct shiny and matte finishes on the highly durable material.
Furthermore, a unique arrangement allows the date to be viewed through a cutout in the front rotor's blank section.
The contrast between the central metal part, adorned with perlage decoration, and the outer circumference made of carbon fiber is striking, truly exemplifying Perrelet's sophisticated design work.
The see-through case back also reveals another automatic winding rotor, engraved with the brand logo.
28,800 vibrations per hour. 40-hour power reserve. Natural rubber strap. Case diameter 43.5mm. Case thickness 14.0mm. ¥493,500 (preliminary price). Scheduled for release in September 2007.
BRAND HISTORY
Abraham-Louis Perrelet, a distinguished Swiss watchmaker, unveiled the first self-winding mechanism in 1777, earning him the title "father of the automatic watch." Simultaneously, he founded a prestigious workshop that produced numerous skilled watchmakers, including his grandson Louis-Frédéric Piguet, who conceived the split-seconds chronograph mechanism.
In the latter half of the 20th century, the brand bearing the Perrelet name was revived. In 1995, as a tribute to the founder, the "Dupoisot" was introduced, featuring a double-rotor automatic winding mechanism with self-winding rotors on both the front and back of the movement. This innovation secured a patent and brought the brand widespread acclaim.
The brand continued to release ambitious creations. In 2005, it undertook a significant overhaul of its collections, relaunching as the new Perrelet. The case finishing saw marked improvements, and the patented sapphire crystal rotor was adopted to enhance the visibility of the automatic movement, solidifying its status as a luxury brand.
Furthermore, complications such as tourbillons and five-minute repeaters were successively introduced. In 2007, the brand achieved remarkable advancements in both design and mechanics, marked by the launch of its first sports collection.
