The style you choose becomes your own. "SALON de CHAUMET" | CHAUMET
CHAUMET | SALON de CHAUMET
The style you choose becomes your own. "SALON de CHAUMET"
"Salon" is French for "drawing room." It originated in the early 17th century when aristocrats would invite artists and intellectuals to their residences to foster an exchange of intellect and creativity. Empress Joséphine, Napoleon I's wife and CHAUMET's first client, also hosted many salons, giving rise to new cultural movements. Born on the island of Martinique in the Caribbean, she was a woman of refined and radiant creativity. Inheriting Joséphine's spirit, "SALON de CHAUMET" will be held in Tokyo. The theme for this fourth iteration is "Paris Style." Creators, each shining in their own field, have gathered.

—Joséphine infused the masculine rigor of the Imperial style with her own feminine interpretation, making the aesthetics of the 18th century her own. That spirit continues to be passed down at Chaumet today.
Atsuko Tanaka (hereinafter, Tanaka)I've always disliked being confined by conventions, so I really resonate with Chaumet's Paris style. It's about respecting others rather than comparing yourself to them, and being true to yourself. In Japan, there's a pressure to be mindful of others' opinions, which can prevent people from expressing their true thoughts or pursuing what they genuinely want to do. I wish we could be freer in those aspects.
Noriko Tsukagoshi (hereinafter, Tsukagoshi)It's precisely because these are jewelry pieces that pursue authenticity without compromise that one can feel liberated. This allows them to cater to the needs of a diverse clientele, not just a select few, which is fascinating.
Natsuko Shoji (hereinafter, Shoji)What I originally wanted to do was cooking, but if it were just my own desire, people wouldn't connect with it. That's why I focused on the world of jewelry. I love haute couture and the idea of creating a world tailored to each individual's needs. I thought I could first achieve this through confectionery, build a brand, and then enter the culinary world. I believed that by fully realizing the world of haute couture with complete originality, I could create something unique and unprecedented.
Yugo Kanno (hereinafter, Kanno)People aren't moved by things they can imagine. Our job is to evoke emotion. When releasing something new, we must consistently provide inspiration by subverting expectations in a positive way; otherwise, a brand will quickly fail. I believe this is crucial.
—The "Joséphine" collection, inspired by Joséphine's sensibility, embodies the "Paris Style"—wearing what you truly love, whenever you wish, without being bound by the gaze of others. This is Chaumet's proposition.
TanakaWhen I was working in NY, I thought "strength" was the "self-expression" through my work, but recently, it might be "femininity." While my age and the subjects I photograph differ, I feel that the environment also influences the style of my work.
Kosuke Oho (hereinafter, Oho)It's important to offer the best proposal to the client, so I never impose my own style. Therefore, I haven't really considered my personal style, but I always question whether what I'm trying to do is truly meaningful. When things get underway, it's easy to get caught up in the idea of just completing the task. I believe my role, or my personal style, is to see things through to completion while retaining their original purpose and meaning.
TsukagoshiYou can't deceive yourself, no matter how much you try, so it's about pursuing things relentlessly without making excuses. On stage, I aim to be reborn as a being possessed by the music, not as Noriko Tsukagoshi. In my case, my performance style is perhaps my "self-expression."
KannoWriting the music I want to write is, in a sense, "desire," isn't it? It's not just about the effort to compose; I have to consider, one by one, how to move people in the best way to present it to the world, adapting to the job. I think establishing a style is the beginning of its decline. Once work starts coming based on a certain style, if I just keep doing the same thing, I'll get bored first. And people will get bored too. I try to maintain a mindset that allows me to update my own style.
—From denim to evening gowns—Chaumet's jewelry embodies a Paris style that aims to be a source of radiance in life, not just for a fleeting moment, but always.
OhoThe surprising discovery is that "authenticity" can be paired with anything. Of course, what you pair it with must also be authentic... (laughs).
TanakaStyle isn't something that's formed instantly; it's built over time. With globally renowned individuals, I might only have two minutes for a photoshoot. Even then, I want to capture a photo that conveys the atmosphere of the moment. It's a sense of gradually shaping what I believe in and what I value. It's a feeling of things gradually taking form.
ShojiWhile trends change with the times, I always try to anchor myself to my origins. For anything, the first step is to satisfy a very small number of people. I want to remember to always return to that point when considering things. Since I work alone, everything reflects on me and carries my name, so I only accept work that is beautiful.
