Clive Owen, a key figure whose activities have deepened the connection between Jaeger-LeCoultre and the film industry in recent years. We asked him to answer 11 questions from OPENERS during his extremely busy schedule. Here, we present the full exchange without cuts. Q1. For you, what is the work of actors and what kind of actor do your want to be?
What does being an actor mean to you? And what kind of actor do you aspire to be?


When I started out as an actor it was very important to me to make it a long term thing. I wanted a career in acting not become successful and then fade away. I love the fact it is possible to do this profession your whole life (if you get lucky).
When I started out as an actor, I felt it was important to make this a long-term endeavor. I wanted to build a career, not just achieve fleeting success. I love that this profession allows one to continue working throughout their life, if they are fortunate.

Q2. Your role as an actor is to replay, re-produce or to create a new, the time of the past, present and future. What does ‘time’ signify to you as an actor?
As an actor, your role is to recreate or embody past, present, or future moments. From that perspective, what does 'time' signify to you?


Time is very important to an actor because so much about acting is rhythm and timing.
Time is crucial for an actor, as rhythm and timing play significant roles in performance.



Q3. What does ‘time’ signifies in your private life?
What does time signify in your private life?


I’m a very punctual person. I hate being late for anything and punctuality is very important in the movie business. My punctuality is always good in both work and leisure. I hate being late and consider being ‘fashionably late’ as almost rude. I have three alarms set and always react immediately to the first one because I’m worried about being late.
I am very strict about punctuality. I dislike being late for anything, and precision is paramount in the film industry. This punctuality benefits both my work and personal life. I dislike the notion of being 'fashionably late,' considering it rather impolite. Consequently, I set three alarms and always wake to the first one, as I am concerned about being tardy.

Q4. Have you had particular favourite watch? And what kind of watch was it? And why were you so attached to it?
What is a favorite watch you've owned? What kind of watch was it, and why was it so special to you?


My first serious watch was a vintage 1930's watch bought for me by my then girlfriend (she later became my wife).
My first significant watch was a vintage piece from the 1930s, a gift from my then-girlfriend, who later became my wife.

Q5. How important are the watches in general for you, and why?
What are your thoughts on watches in general?


I love watches as they are practical and also very artistic. A good watch is an exquisite piece of craftsmanship.
I have a great fondness for watches; they are both practical and artistic. A fine watch embodies exquisite craftsmanship.

Q6. How did you meet Jaeger-LeCoultre? When, where, how?
When, where, and how did you first encounter Jaeger-LeCoultre?


It was about 10 years ago. It was a very natural coming together .. I was a huge fan of their Amvox range and Jaeger-LeCoultre approached me about working with them so it was very organic and a very good match because I genuinely love their watches.
It was about ten years ago, a very natural encounter. I was captivated by their Amvox collection, and Jaeger-LeCoultre then approached me about collaborating. It felt truly organic and a perfect fit, as I genuinely admire their timepieces.

Q7. What do you think of Jaeger-LeCoultre?
What does Jaeger-LeCoultre represent to you?


Jaeger-LeCoultre have been at the forefront of watch making for so long. I love their watches; they are exquisitely made and beautiful to look at.
Jaeger-LeCoultre has long been at the vanguard of watchmaking. I am captivated by their timepieces; they are exquisitely crafted and aesthetically beautiful.

Q8. What is/are your favorite Jaeger-LeCoultre watch/es?
What are your favorite Jaeger-LeCoultre watches?


I’m lucky enough to own a few Jaeger-LeCoultre. I particularly love the Duomètre range – amazing craftsmanship and beautiful to look at. I feel like I am wearing a piece of art on my wrist... Tonight I have a black tie event and I will wear the new Geophysic True Second in pink gold.
I consider myself fortunate to own several Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces. I am particularly drawn to the Duomètre collection, appreciating its remarkable craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal. It feels as though I am wearing a work of art on my wrist. Tonight, for a black-tie event, I plan to wear the new Geophysic True Second in pink gold.

Q9. And why do you like it/them?
What specifically do you appreciate about them?


I love their watches because they are exquisitely made. I have visited the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture in The Vallée de Joux and saw for myself how much work and dedication goes into making a watch. The thing that has impressed me most about the brand is the level of the craftsmanship: the ethos of the company with their attention to detail makes these watches very desirable.
I admire their watches for their meticulous craftsmanship. I had the opportunity to visit the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture in the Vallée de Joux and witnessed firsthand the dedication and effort invested in creating each timepiece. The brand's commitment to detail and its underlying philosophy deeply impressed me, making these watches exceptionally desirable.

Q10 Is philosophy of Jaeger-LeCoultre compatible with yours? If yes, in which way?
In what ways do your personal philosophy and Jaeger-LeCoultre's ethos align?


Jaeger-LeCoultre is a classic and elegant brand. I am proud to represent their Haute Horlogerie. The mechanism and the history behind the Jaeger-LeCoultre watches is fascinating. They have people working there for 30-40 years: loyalty is important and works both ways which is something I am very impressed with.

I am about to work on 'Valerian ' a movie directed by Luc Besson.
My message to my Japanese fans is I hope to get the opportunity to come and visit soon!
I will soon begin filming 'Valerian,' a science fiction film directed by Luc Besson (scheduled for release in summer 2017). I look forward to the opportunity to visit Japan and meet my fans there in the near future!
