On August 4th, Patek Philippe celebrated the grand opening of SPHERE PATEK PHILIPPE BOUTIQUE TOKYO in Aoyama, Tokyo, its largest flagship store in Japan. The boutique is a complete renovation of SPHERE PATEK PHILIPPE GALLERY, the only Patek Philippe specialty store in the country. The grand opening was made possible by the store's selection as a "Boutique"—a designation reserved for a limited number of stores worldwide that meet Patek Philippe's stringent criteria.
Patek Philippe's authorized retailer network is selected based on strict evaluation criteria, including prestige, watchmaking expertise, and location. Currently, there are three directly managed stores (Geneva Main Store, Paris Vendôme, London Bond Street, NY Tiffany), three boutiques (Milan, Frankfurt, and Tokyo's Aoyama "Sphere"), and 430 regular retail locations. PATEK PHILIPPE BOUTIQUE is a retailer certified to provide services of the same caliber as directly managed stores. The SPHERE PATEK PHILIPPE BOUTIQUE TOKYO, which has now grand opened, is the third PATEK PHILIPPE BOUTIQUE in the world, following those in Milan and Frankfurt.
Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe has earned renown as Geneva's oldest independent manufacture. SPHERE PATEK PHILIPPE BOUTIQUE TOKYO has been chosen as a vital information hub in Asia for conveying the company's traditional spirit and the "joy and emotion that Patek Philippe brings." Great expectations are placed on the future activities of this boutique.

BRAND HISTORY
Since the mid-19th century, Patek Philippe has reigned at the pinnacle of the watchmaking world, an exceptional brand. Revered by watch enthusiasts as the ultimate aspiration, this world-renowned watch brand was founded by two individuals passionate about horology.
The first cornerstone was laid by Antoni Patek, an exiled nobleman from Poland. He fled his homeland, then under Tsarist Russian oppression, to Geneva, the heart of the Swiss watch industry. There, he became interested in the local watchmaking trade and, through his encounter with watchmaker François Czapek, established a watch company in 1839.
The company's performance grew steadily, but Antoni Patek sought further potential in watch manufacturing. Around this time, he visited the Universal Exposition in Paris, France, where he was profoundly impressed by the world's first pocket watch with a winding crown.
The watchmaker behind this innovation was Jean-Adrien Philippe. Antoni Patek brought him in to succeed François Czapek. This meeting led to the development of new mechanisms such as the "split-seconds" in '46 and the "free-sprung balance" in '48. In 1851, the year the company won a gold medal at the London Exposition, it was renamed to the current "Patek Philippe."
Subsequently, Patek Philippe actively pursued complex mechanisms, developing its first perpetual calendar in '89. Notably, the "Graves" watch of 1927, a historical complication watch featuring 24 complications, received high acclaim. Furthermore, in 1932, the company introduced the Calatrava, still regarded today as the benchmark for dress watches, solidifying its position in the realm of wristwatches.
Having thus established itself as a leader in the watchmaking world, Patek Philippe continues to produce numerous masterpieces, from simple watches to complex complications, even in the 21st century. While preserving traditional techniques to pass on the heritage of Swiss watchmaking to future generations, the company also actively challenges itself to develop new technologies and materials, forging new possibilities.
