ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO 2021 to be Held, Experiencing the Forefront of the Contemporary Art Scene
In the historic city of Kyoto, the artist-led art fair "ARTISTS' FAIR KYOTO 2021" is set to be held in March 2021.
This fair, which transcends conventional art fair frameworks, has been well-received as a venue for fostering communication between visitors and artists, and this year marks its fourth iteration. By actively creating opportunities for emerging artists to launch their careers, it has grown in popularity with each edition as a gateway for young talent.
"ARTISTS' FAIR KYOTO 2020," originally scheduled for spring 2020, was unfortunately cancelled due to the spread of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus infection), with the health and safety of participants and stakeholders being the utmost priority. The cancellation affected the main venues (Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design Annex and the basement of The Kyoto Shimbun) and the fair itself.
"ARTISTS' FAIR KYOTO 2021" will implement measures against the novel coronavirus infection and will be held with advance reservations by date and time to ensure a safe and secure viewing experience. In this new normal, the "art fair" that allows visitors to experience the forefront of the contemporary art scene, born from Kyoto's tradition of innovation, will restart.
Kohei Nawa, Chiharu Shiota, and Izumi Kato return to the advisory board for 2021. ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO has functioned as a launchpad for emerging artists within its unique ecosystem.
For 2021, under the theme "Singularity of Art," Nobuo Tsuji will serve as director, and the "Advisory Board" of artists recommending emerging talent will include 17 leading artists such as Kohei Nawa, Chiharu Shiota, and Izumi Kato.
A total of 42 emerging artists, brimming with potential, have been selected through curations from diverse perspectives and open calls.
*As of October 30th.
The main venue transforms Kyoto's unique, historic venues into eccentric exhibition spaces, showcasing and selling a wide variety of works, from paintings to installations utilizing technology.
