Michelin One-Star Thai Restaurant Somtumder Makes Its Highly Anticipated Debut in Japan
Somtumder, renowned for its authentic Thai Isaan cuisine in Bangkok and globally, will open its doors in Yoyogi, Tokyo, on Wednesday, September 13th.
Somtumder Tokyo marks the fourth establishment in the Somtumder chain, following successful openings in Bangkok, New York, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Conveniently located just a three-minute walk from Yoyogi Station, the restaurant offers a genuine taste of Thailand, faithfully preserving the flavors of its homeland.
A standout dish, and the namesake of the restaurant, is Som Tum, a traditional salad from Thailand's northeastern Isaan region, made with green papaya.
This crisp salad, seasoned with a tangy, spicy blend of chili and lime, is a staple that Isaan locals enjoy daily.
The menu at Somtumder Tokyo is curated by Goonn (Goonthanat Thongnam), Executive Chef of the Somtumder Group, who earned a Michelin One-Star for Somtumder in New York in 2016.
Alongside various Som Tum preparations, Somtumder Tokyo also features Laab Nam Tok, a herb-rich salad, and
other familiar favorites such as Tom Yum Goong, and the iconic Thai dish, Pad Krapow Moo.
In the Isaan dialect, "der" in "Somtumder" is an emphatic suffix, akin to "isn't it?" or "how lovely!", conveying shared sentiment and reflecting the warm hospitality and camaraderie of the Isaan people.
Somtumder Tokyo promises to nourish both body and soul with its authentic flavors and heartfelt hospitality.
Why not experience it for yourself?
