Roppongi Art Night 2022: A Magical Adventure to Discover Art's Wonders in This City!

Roppongi Art Night will be held from Saturday, September 17 to Monday, October 19, 2022, under the theme 'A Magical Adventure to Discover Art's Wonders in This City!'

The main program features Takashi Murakami, a globally active contemporary artist representing Japan, along with 12 artists curated by Murakami.
The motif Murakami has chosen for the main program this year is 'Doraemon.' Murakami describes Doraemon as 'the greatest pop icon born in Japan in the 20th century.' He has collaborated with Fujiko F. Fujio, the creator of Doraemon, on numerous works in recent years. For Roppongi Art Night, a balloon artwork of unprecedented scale is planned.

In addition to his role as an artist, Murakami will also serve as a producer for this Roppongi Art Night. He will collaborate with artists he has curated, such as Mr., Aya Takano, MADSAKI, and Yuya Morita, as well as Yuta Hosokawa, who handles READYMADE, on new works inspired by 'Doraemon.' These artworks will be displayed at Roppongi Hills Arena, Tokyo Midtown, The National Art Center, Tokyo, and other locations. The extraordinary atmosphere created by the diverse Doraemon balloon artworks appearing throughout Roppongi will truly be a magical world.

Roppongi Art Night 2022

Event Concept:
Roppongi Art Night is a celebration of art, aiming to propose a new lifestyle of enjoying art in daily life and to create a pioneering model for urban development in the bustling metropolis of Tokyo. This event, which began in March 2009 as a leading art festival in Tokyo, transforms Roppongi—an area rich in commercial and cultural facilities—into a stage where diverse works of contemporary art, design, music, film, and performance are scattered throughout the city, creating an extraordinary experience. It has continued to evolve year by year.

*Some artworks will be exhibited in advance from Saturday, September 3.
