A New Hotel, Embracing the Community

Hulic Hotel Management Kyoto Co., Ltd. will open "The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa by HULIC," its first in the Kansai region, on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Room reservations commenced on the hotel's official website (https://www.gate-hotel.jp/kyoto/) starting Wednesday, February 19th.

The Gate Hotel brand was born in Asakusa, Tokyo, in 2012, followed by the opening of its flagship, The Gate Hotel Tokyo by HULIC, in Yurakucho, Tokyo, in 2018. The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa, the third in Japan and the first in the Kansai region, is being operated as part of Kyoto City's "Motodaisen Elementary School Site Redevelopment Project," preserving and regenerating a portion of the valuable modern school building (completed in 1927). Combined with a new building designed in harmony, it will be reborn as a new hotel that walks with the community, actively incorporating traditional and local culture.

The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa is conveniently located just a 3-minute walk from Kyoto Kawaramachi Station, within walking distance of tourist attractions like Gion and Nishiki Market, historical sites where you can feel the spirit of the Bakumatsu and Meiji Restoration, and nightlife spots such as Pontocho and Kiyamachi. It is situated in an area that allows guests to enjoy the charms of both daytime vibrancy and nighttime enchantment. This hotel will open within "Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto," a complex facility featuring community activity spaces, a cultural hub hall, a library, and commercial shops.

As part of Kyoto City's "Motodaisen Elementary School Site Redevelopment Project," a portion of the existing school building is preserved and regenerated for operation. The "Schoolhouse Building," utilizing this 93-year-old structure, will offer 20 guest rooms, complemented by 164 rooms in 6 types within the new building, for a total of 184 rooms. The top-floor lobby and restaurant & bar offer a sweeping panorama of the lush green Higashiyama mountains. Additionally, the "Retreat Room," a large hall carpeted with tatami mats equivalent to 60 tatami mats, will serve as an activity space. Throughout the hotel, spaces are created to evoke the passage of seasons and time.

The new building, which expresses Kyoto's essence in a modern way, offers 164 rooms in 6 types, while the "Schoolhouse Building," renovated from the former Motodaisen Elementary School, provides 20 rooms, totaling 184 guest rooms. The new building features suites like "THE GATE" with views of Higashiyama, "Classy" rooms to experience the city's vibrancy, and "Essential" rooms where guests can choose their preferred bed type based on their needs. ■ Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto Facility Overview
"Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto" comprises the hotel, community activity spaces, the cultural hub "Hulic Hall Kyoto," "Rissei Library," commercial shops, and the open space "Rissei Hiroba." Since its closure in 1993, the former Motodaisen Elementary School has served as a venue for cultural and artistic expression by local residents. This role will be carried forward, centered around "Hulic Hall Kyoto." The commercial zone will feature a total of eight shops (※) offering unique concepts and new ventures, including those making their debut in Kyoto. This complex facility, designed to foster culture, create encounters, and spread diverse vibrancy throughout the area, is set to open in July 2020.
