As commuters and business travelers gradually return to movement following the lifting of the state of emergency, Uber Taxi is supporting Tokyo residents in resuming their activities. The company also anticipates increased usage from tourists as travel becomes more active again in the future.

The taxi industry was hit hard by movement restrictions due to the spread of COVID-19, but domestic Uber Taxi usage has been gradually recovering. The launch of Uber Taxi in Tokyo is expected to contribute to the revenue of taxi companies and further aid in the recovery of economic activity.

This initiative was realized through partnerships with three taxi companies: Hinomaru Limousine Co., Ltd., Tokyo MK Co., Ltd., and Ecosystem Co., Ltd. By combining Uber's technology with the experienced drivers of these taxi companies, a convenient and comfortable taxi ride experience is provided. Users can take advantage of popular features such as diverse payment options, sharing their ETA with friends and family, real-time GPS tracking, fare splitting, and spotlight.
