Works Selected for the New Sensory Sound Exhibition, OKAZAKI LOOPS "Oto o Torareru"!
Following its 2016 iteration, the "Kyoto Okazaki Music Festival 2017 OKAZAKI LOOPS"—a genre-defying music festival—will be held on Saturday, June 10th and Sunday, June 11th, in Okazaki, Kyoto's esteemed cultural district. Details have now been revealed for "Capturing Sound," a special exhibition and a highlight of the festival's program.
A New "Sound Exhibition" for Diverse Musical Encounters
This exhibition will showcase works that interpret the intangible concept of "sound" as various materials and phenomena, divided into two sections: Art and Entertainment. The venues will be the promenade of ROHM THEATRE KYOTO (1F & 2F) and the satellite venue at JR Kyoto Isetan, offering a range of musical experiences. In addition to artists like Yuri Suzuki, Ryota Yagi, and Rei Kunimoto, the exhibition will feature sound sculptures by François Baschet and Bernard Baschet, restored by the Kyoto City University of Arts.

Kyoto City University of Arts
Sound-producing sculptures created from the 1960s onwards by brothers François Baschet (1920-2014) and Bernard Baschet (1918-2015). Primarily using metal, these works were conceived based on principles of acoustics and physics, with a philosophical background rooted in "Art + Science + Public Participation." The 'Katsura Phone' was restored in 2015 by Martí Ruiz, who served as Baschet's assistant, and students primarily from the sculpture department of Kyoto City University of Arts.

The visual imagery is inspired by jellyfish, creatures that have existed with unchanged form and ecology since ancient times. The piece evokes the beginning and end of life through gradually fading sound vibrations and ripples of water.
