Held: "FUJI TEXTILE WEEK 2021," a Hybrid Exhibition of a Weaving Studio and Art Show, from the 1000-Year-Old Textile Region at the Foot of Mt. Fuji

The exhibition will take place in vacant shops, storehouses, and former banks around the central commercial district at the foot of Mt. Fuji, featuring studio exhibitions by 15 weaving studios and an art exhibition by nine artists including Shinji Ohmaki, Yumi Kori, and Miya Nishio. During the exhibition period, exchange programs such as talk shows with artists and studios, live performances, and bus tours of weaving studios will also be held.

Through "FUJI TEXTILE WEEK 2021," we aim to weave together creativity with regional resources centered on textiles, fostering creation, dissemination, revitalization, and inheritance of textiles through a new network. This program offers an opportunity to discover the identity of Fujiyoshida and the new charm and potential of textiles.

Theme / Program: Weaving and Presence

Under the common theme of "Weaving and Presence," FUJI TEXTILE WEEK 2021 will feature two main exhibitions—an art exhibition and a studio exhibition—along with exchange programs such as talk shows.

01 - Art Exhibition "Textile & Art"
This exhibition showcases works inspired by textiles and pieces created through the "Studio Collaboration Project" with Fujiyoshida weaving studios, all centered around the theme of "Weaving and Presence." It explores the potential of sculpture not as a permanent, fixed form, but as something fluid, adaptable, and dynamic, contrasting with the traditional concept of sculptures that maintain their solid shape indefinitely. These textiles are soft, flutter in the wind, or trace the contours of objects, creating indeterminate forms.

02 - Studio Exhibition "WARP & WEFT"
This exhibition brings together, in one venue, the "Kai-kō"—a legendary textile from Yamanashi's weaving region—along with contemporary ideas, designs, unique textiles, and products emerging from modern weaving factories. Experience the "weaving and presence" rooted in this land, spanning from the past to the present and into the future.

03 - Exchange Programs
Throughout the exhibition period, there will be talk shows with participating artists and studios, live performances, and bus tours of weaving factories. Additionally, from sunset, restaurants in the "Nishiura" area, a nighttime tourist spot in Fujiyoshida City, will partner with the event to provide a space for participants to gather and exchange information.
