The OMOTENASHI Selection, now in its fourth year, recently announced its first round of award-winning products for 2018.
OMOTENASHI Selection is a program that discovers, certifies, and promotes outstanding Japanese products and services both domestically and internationally.
Products and services brimming with Japan's unique 'omotenashi' spirit—born from a consideration for the recipient—are selected by Japanese experts and international judges from eight regions. These selections encompass meticulous craftsmanship, unique Japanese aesthetics, and innovative improvements on tradition for contemporary appeal.
In 2018, the fourth year of the program, applications and announcements were divided into two product award rounds and one experience/service award round, conducted throughout the year.
Following a total of 397 entries in the product category, Japanese and international judges selected 47 award-winning products from 22 prefectures across Japan for the first round.
From these, 11 recipients were chosen for Gold Awards based on their overall high evaluation.
