On Friday, March 24th, Konno Hachiman Shrine Becomes the Stage for "SHIBUYA RUNWAY"!
The Shibuya Fashion Week Executive Committee (Executive Committee Chair: Kenji Onishi, Chair of the Shibuya Dogenzaka Shopping Street Promotion Association) is
holding the "7th Shibuya Fashion Week," a collaborative campaign to convey the charm of Shibuya, a city where one can embody their personal style through fashion.
The event will take place from Thursday, March 16th to Sunday, March 26th, 2017,
at various commercial facilities around Shibuya Station.
Shibuya Fashion Week was first held in March 2014 as part of the "Shibuya: An International Cultural and Tourist City" initiative to establish Shibuya as a global tourism hub. Large commercial facilities, which had previously competed with each other, came together for the first time to
develop various promotional measures, including fashion shows and talk shows hosted by each facility.
Furthermore, the main event, "SHIBUYA RUNWAY," has each year featured
street fashion shows on Bunkamura Dori and fashion shows on a "stage 70 meters above ground" at the Tokyu Theatre Orb within Shibuya Hikarie,
many of which have involved the entire Shibuya area.
It is truly growing into an event that represents Shibuya as a city of fashion.
And, emerging Japanese creators from "Tokyo New Age," who have showcased their collections at past "SHIBUYA RUNWAY" events,
are increasingly participating in "Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO" (organized by the Japan Fashion Week Organization), one of the world's five major fashion weeks.
This has led to "Shibuya Fashion Week" becoming a topic of conversation in the fashion design world as a "stepping stone for young designers."
The "7th Shibuya Fashion Week" opens on Thursday, March 16th.
7th Shibuya Fashion Week Kicks Off March 16th
This year, the seventh iteration, centers on the theme "MADE IN SHIBUYA," which was introduced in the sixth event,
and will feature initiatives unique to Shibuya that allow visitors to engage with fashion in various forms, such as
"shopping for fashion (in stores)," "viewing fashion (shows)," and "enjoying fashion (visiting and social media)."
Additionally, a campaign linking participating stores and the smartphone app "NEARLY" will be launched,
allowing the entire city to feel "Shibuya Fashion Week" beyond the boundaries of large commercial facilities.
On Friday, March 24th, a fashion show titled "SHIBUYA RUNWAY" will be held, transforming the approach to Konno Hachiman Shrine into a runway.
In addition to a fashion show by emerging Japanese creators "Tokyo New Age,"
shop staff from Shibuya area stores, including those participating in the campaign at major commercial facilities, will walk the runway themselves
to showcase Shibuya's unique "real clothes."
Ambassadors will also appear at the grand finale to present Shibuya's latest fashion culture.
Furthermore, as "SHIBUYA RUNWAY" is scheduled for a Friday near the end of the month,
why not experience the joy of "dressing up and heading out to Shibuya for an early Premium Friday?"
