Kyoto Crafts Exhibition “DIALOGUE”: A Craft Event Transforming a Hotel into an Exhibition Space

The exhibition and sales event "DIALOGUE" will feature over 60 businesses with traditional backgrounds, held in the guest rooms and entrance hall of Hotel Kanra Kyoto.

Under the theme "Craftsmanship Towards Future-Oriented Manufacturing," the exhibition aims to re-examine the relationship between people and objects through crafts and handmade work.

Related events include a talk session with Yu Yamada (method), director of "Festival of the Factories" (Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata), a leading regional industry revitalization event in Japan, and a reception party for interaction with the creators.

【Hotel Kanra Kyoto】
Opened in autumn 2010, this hotel was created by converting a 23-year-old educational facility north of Higashi Honganji Temple in Kyoto.

The guest rooms feature a distinctive narrow 'machiya style' design, a modern interpretation of Kyoto's traditional townhouse architecture, while utilizing the existing structure.
The rooms include tatami areas and hinoki cypress bathtubs, and traditional crafts are used in the room furnishings and restaurant, creating a hotel imbued with Japanese aesthetics.
