At Hoshinoya Karuizawa, which is based on the concept of 'staying in a village in a valley,' a 'Winter Dawn Sauna' will be held from Wednesday, December 1, 2021, to Monday, February 28, 2022, allowing guests to refresh their mind and body in a private sauna overlooking Mount Asama.

This is an activity for overnight guests, involving alternating between a wilderness sauna and outdoor cooling while enjoying the early morning scenery from a secluded, elevated spot nestled in the forest.

A private elevated area with a view of Mount Asama is reserved, and a sauna room and seating for outdoor cooling are set up. The sauna room is heated to high temperatures by stones laid over a wood-burning stove; water is then poured over the stones to generate steam, raising the temperature to approximately 70°C.

Sweating profusely in the high-temperature sauna room releases the body's heat, melting away daily worries and clearing the mind of clutter. Listening to the crackling fire and watching the flames dance brings a sense of calm.

After thoroughly warming the body, cool down in the frigid outdoor air, which drops to around -10°C. Cooling the flushed body while gazing at the beautiful scenery, transitioning from starry night to dawn, is incredibly refreshing. It leaves you feeling mentally and physically revitalized.

Furthermore, Hoshinoya Karuizawa provides aromatherapy oils themed around the forest, including birch, cypress, and Japanese chugnut. Guests can choose from 4 to 6 types of preferred scents, which are then poured over the stones on the wood-burning stove, enhancing mind and body refreshment through the power of aroma.

Proper hydration is also essential after sweating profusely. An original water infused with salt and sugar is provided. With added sweetness from fruits like Shine Muscat and prune, and a refreshing mint aroma, it is truly invigorating and soothes the body.
