Kai, Hoshino Resorts' onsen ryokan brand with locations across Japan, launched a "Onsen Ryokan Trip Plan to Spend Time with Your Dog on the Plane and During Your Stay" in collaboration with Starflyer on October 30, 2022.

Many dog owners consider their pets to be family members. When planning a trip, they may feel guilty about leaving their dog at a pet hotel, or worry about transportation and accommodation if they bring their dog along. Most people probably give up on the idea of long-distance travel with their beloved dog, thinking it's impossible.

Amidst this, the "Onsen Ryokan Trip Plan to Spend Time with Your Dog on the Plane and During Your Stay" has been launched. The plan runs from October 30, 2022, to March 24, 2023, and is available at three facilities: Kai Yufuin (Yufuin Onsen, Oita Prefecture), Kai Beppu (Beppu Onsen, Oita Prefecture), and Kai Aso (Senomoto Onsen, Oita Prefecture). The plan involves flying from Haneda Airport to Kitakyushu Airport on Starflyer, then traveling by rental car to a relaxing onsen ryokan, for a 2-day, 1-night trip with your dog as a family member.

Prior to this plan, Starflyer, with its corporate philosophy of being an "airline that offers inspiration," launched "FLY WITH PET!" in March 2022, the first in-cabin pet companion service on domestic scheduled flights in Japan. Unlike traditional services where pets are separated from their owners, this service allows pets in carriers to board the plane and spend the flight time alongside their owners.

Meanwhile, Hoshino Resorts, with its theme of "making travel enjoyable," wanted guests to create lasting memories with their beloved dogs, who are considered family members, even during their stay. To this end, they introduced dedicated dog rooms at each of their facilities.

Consequently, with both parties sharing the same vision for "travel with dogs," this joint "Onsen Ryokan Trip Plan to Spend Time with Your Dog on the Plane and During Your Stay" has now been realized.

After enjoying the flight and arriving at Kitakyushu Airport, you'll proceed by rental car. Furthermore, instead of being confined to a carrier, the car is equipped with a dog seat (provided by Honda Access), allowing you to enjoy the drive and view the scenery together with your dog.

Each onsen ryokan offers dedicated rooms where your dog can stay with you. For example, at Kai Yufuin, one of the 45 rooms is a unique regional room called "Hotaru-kago no Ma (Dog Room)". This detached room overlooks a kunugi forest and features a private open-air bath, allowing you to relax without disturbing others.

Furthermore, the dog room at Kai Yufuin is complemented by a spacious private dog run, where your dog can run and play freely in a natural setting. A happy dog means a refreshed owner too!

Additionally, all facilities participating in this plan provide amenities such as dog beds, food bowls, and pet sheets in the guest rooms, ensuring a comfortable and secure stay for your dog. This minimizes the need to pack dog supplies, promising a pleasant and memorable onsen experience.

Future plans are being considered for travel not only from the Tokyo metropolitan area to Kyushu, but also from Kyushu to the Tokyo metropolitan area. We look forward to the possibility of onsen trips with dogs becoming available nationwide.
