Moving Inn, a company offering rental services for original campervans with hotel-like comfort, has launched a limited-time activity plan in Hokkaido's Tokachi area. This plan allows guests to enjoy a sauna experience using a "sauna trailer" that can be towed with a regular driver's license, and a "ice hole"—carved from the frozen river—for a cold plunge.

Experience the Essential Cold Plunge in a Frozen River

Hokkaido's Tokachi region is one of Japan's coldest areas, with temperatures dropping to around minus 20 degrees Celsius during the peak of winter. Leveraging this environment, where rivers and lakes freeze over, a unique car travel experience called "The 'Totonou' Sauna Journey on Earth, TOKACHI SAUNA & AVANTO" is offered exclusively during winter, limited to one group per day.

To facilitate this activity, Moving Inn has introduced Japan's first rental "sauna trailer," a sauna vehicle that can be towed with a standard driver's license. Compared to the increasingly popular sauna tents, the sauna trailer offers significantly higher insulation. It can reach interior temperatures of around 90 degrees Celsius even in cold climates. Furthermore, it supports "löyly"—the practice of pouring water over sauna stones to generate steam—enabling a comfortable sauna experience in any setting.

Staff prepare an "ice hole" by cutting into the frozen river beforehand, and the mobile sauna trailer is parked alongside it. Chairs and a bonfire are also provided for guests to enjoy Tokachi's unique "extreme cold outdoor bathing" experience. The accommodation tent is equipped with a wood-burning stove, ensuring a comfortable stay. Guests simply need to rent a campervan and travel to the site to experience a sauna filled with heat and "avanto," the Finnish tradition of plunging into a frozen river.
