Founded in 1999 in Seattle, USA, Ace Hotel has become a popular lifestyle hotel brand with locations in Portland, Oregon, Los Angeles, and across America and Europe. Its latest destination is Kyoto, specifically Karasuma Oike, with the opening of Ace Hotel Kyoto on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Advance reservations for stays are now being accepted on the dedicated website.

Ace Hotel Kyoto will open within Shin-Kansai, a complex that partially preserves and restores the historic former Kyoto Central Telephone Office building, alongside a new structure. The hotel is a collaborative design by Kengo Kuma, a leading Japanese architect, and Commune Design, a long-time partner of Ace Hotel based in Los Angeles.

Designed with the concept of “East meets West,” the interior aims to be a space that honors Kyoto’s rich nature, art, ever-evolving culture, sophisticated craftsmanship, and profound history. Featuring original art by various artists, including textile artist Sayoko Yamaguchi, and a meticulously landscaped sky garden, the hotel's interior blends Japanese aesthetics with Western influences, expressing respect for Kyoto's culture and traditions.

The hotel offers 213 guest rooms in nine types, including Standard King and three suites. Each room is equipped with a turntable and guitar, symbolizing the importance of music to Ace Hotel, along with original furniture and art created by American and Japanese creators specifically for this hotel. Amenities are specially designed by uka, a Japanese total beauty company. Uka's products are also planned to be adopted in all Ace Hotel locations, both within and outside Japan.

The front lobby is set to host cultural events in collaboration with local Kyoto artists as well as international talents. The banquet hall, which can accommodate up to 280 guests, and three meeting spaces are available for exhibitions and events. Weddings are also possible for one couple per day. The venue allows for ceremonies and parties in any style, with customizable decorations, music, attire, and cuisine.

Advance reservations for stays are currently being accepted on the official Ace Hotel Kyoto website. Starting Wednesday, February 12, 2020, reservations for stays from Thursday, May 21, 2020, onwards will be available by phone.
