Okinawan Ingredients Meet Latin Flavors?! Be Captivated by Resort Cuisine You Didn't Know You Were Missing | TRAVEL
TRAVEL | HIYORI Ocean Resort Okinawa
A New Culinary Gem at HIYORI Ocean Resort Okinawa: Exploring Its Dining Facilities
While all rooms at HIYORI Ocean Resort Okinawa are equipped with a kitchenette, the resort also boasts excellent dining options. The main dining venue, serving as an all-day dining restaurant, is the 'Hillside Grill Restaurant.' Naturally, it's open to non-guests as well, making it a place I'd love to revisit when staying in the Onna Village area.
Tex-Mex Cuisine Inspired by Latin Flavors
For lunch, the 'HIYORI Burger' (¥2,000), made with Misaki beef, a premium Wagyu from Ishigaki Island, is a popular choice. The juicy patty is superb, as are the fluffy, brioche-like buns. You can upgrade your side of fries to truffle fries for an additional ¥200, but be warned: they are dangerously addictive and impossible to stop eating once you start.
As you peruse the menu, you'll notice something intriguing. Dishes like 'Today's Fresh Fish Mexican Spicy Grill,' 'Baja Style Fresh Tacos,' and 'Enchiladas' reveal a distinct Latin influence. It turns out that Okinawa shares a similar latitude with Miami, USA, inspiring a Tex-Mex concept that incorporates the spirit of Latin America.
For dinner, I opted for the course menu (¥6,000), which proved to be excellent value. The cold appetizer, 'Fresh Fish Ceviche,' featured Mimijaa, a white fish caught at a local fishing port, served with a tangkan citrus sauce. It was a refreshing dish in both flavor and appearance, setting high expectations for what was to come.
The warm appetizer, 'Foie Gras Sushi with Sea Lettuce and Reduced Sauce,' was notable for its flavorful sauce made with sea lettuce. The 'Swordfish and Fennel Aglio Olio' was another exquisite dish that truly made me feel like I was at an Okinawan resort.
The main course, 'Misaki Beef Sirloin Grill with 50-Year Aged Balsamic Sauce' (an additional ¥3,000), featured melt-in-your-mouth beef, and the aroma of the aged balsamic was simply divine.
For dessert, I was strongly urged by the staff to try the 'Basque Cheesecake,' which they insisted was a must-have. They apparently went through considerable trial and error to replicate the authentic taste. Each dish at 'Hillside Grill Restaurant' is infused with its own unique character and is utterly delicious! I found myself wanting to try everything on the menu.
The buffet-style breakfast was also brimming with Okinawan flair. Alongside staples like 'jushi' (Okinawan mixed rice) and Okinawan soba, there were enticing options such as 'Chura-jima Pork Sausage,' 'Ryukyu Porridge,' and 'Island Vegetable and Chickpea Tartine' – a spread that immediately elevated my excitement.
It's no surprise that this resort, which has been open for less than six months, achieved the #1 ranking nationwide in the 'Top 100 Hotels with Popular Breakfasts' on a major travel booking site. I suspect you wouldn't get tired of it even after several days of consecutive stays.
The resort also offers other dining facilities, including a 'Steakhouse' with sunset views, a 'Cafe & Bar,' a 'Poolside Bar,' and a 'Deli & Sweets.' The 'Cafe & Bar' features a happy hour where soft drinks are complimentary.
Ah, I want to eat the truffle fries again. But the curry also sounds intriguing. And I haven't even tried the steakhouse yet... My culinary desires are endless. Regardless, this resort is undoubtedly a destination to add to your list for its exceptional dining experiences.
