Vol. 12: Sneaking into a Hip New Hotel!
Hello, it's Reiko. New York seems to skip spring these days, going straight from winter to summer. The weather has been lovely lately, almost too hot at times! But it feels so refreshing. It's the perfect season for a drink on a rooftop. I love the casual yet chic vibe of New York hotels, which you can enjoy even if you're not staying overnight. This time, I visited the much-talked-about new hotel, Sister City, which had its grand opening in mid-May.

A Buzzworthy Hotel Designed by a Noted Team
Starting with the Ace Hotel, hotels in America that are called 'design hotels' have stylish interiors and are increasingly becoming social hubs where people, like digital nomads, work in the lounge or grab a drink with colleagues after work. While design hotels are becoming more common in Japan, New York boasts many high-caliber design hotels.
Sister City, which recently opened in the trendy Lower East Side of Manhattan, was designed by Atelier Ace, the same team behind the Ace Hotel's interiors. As this is their first hotel project besides Ace Hotel, I had to check it out!

Designed with the themes of 'simple,' 'timeless,' and 'grounding,' the hotel feels like visiting a stylish home, offering a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Modern technology is seamlessly integrated, with check-in handled via an automated self-service kiosk. You simply touch the screen to proceed.
Simply Comfortable
Sister City, a 14-story hotel with 200 rooms, offers a remarkably simple yet comfortable space. The design is predominantly white, with no excessive ornamentation. Essential elements are arranged with a tasteful minimalism, creating a sense of efficiency. Given its prime Manhattan location, guests often choose to explore the city, dine out, and return, making the hotel's design optimized for both efficiency and comfort.
While there are several room variations, the views of the classic New York brownstone scenery from the rooms are captivating. Some rooms feature balconies, while others offer unique bunk beds perfect for friends traveling together—ideal for different occasions. The in-room storage is compact yet stylish and sophisticated. Details like the Italian-made materials used in the vanities add a touch of luxury and refinement.

A Rooftop Bar with Unforgettable Manhattan Views
One of my personal favorites is a hotel's rooftop bar, and Sister City has one! Its location on the Lower East Side offers a photogenic panorama, with the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building to the north, and the World Trade Center to the south. The intimate bar provides clear views of Manhattan on sunny days and transforms into a beautiful spot with city lights at night. I highly recommend enjoying a signature cocktail while feeling the breeze—it's a truly special way to spend your time. It's especially wonderful during this season, so do visit!

The back entrance faces an alley filled with vibrant street art, offering a glimpse into New York's urban culture—a detail that adds to the excitement! Be sure to check it out when you visit New York!
