A New Aman Story Unfolds in Venice, Italy

Aman Canal Grande Venice Opens (1)

“Aman,” meaning “peace” in Sanskrit. Since the birth of its first resort, Amankora, on Phuket Island, Thailand, in 1988, the group has expanded to 25 resorts in 17 countries worldwide. This June, marking its 25th anniversary, Amanresorts will open its 26th property, Aman Canal Grande Venice, coinciding with the Venice Biennale.

Venice──A Destination That Captivates the Soul

Amanresorts, founded by Adrian Zecha, envisions a collection of resorts that offer extraordinary experiences in breathtaking destinations, evoking the warmth of a private home. While Amanresorts is particularly well-known in Asia due to the popularity of Amankora, last year saw the opening of two European properties: Amanzoe in Greece and Amanruya in Turkey. The “European Aman” is now truly taking flight. This June, Aman Canal Grande Venice, which we introduce here, will also open its doors.

Venice, a city steeped in history and surrounded by water, was once a major Mediterranean hub. This northern Italian city and its lagoon are now a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also famous for hosting the Venice Biennale, an international art exhibition held every two years, and the prestigious cultural event within it, the Venice International Film Festival.

This year's Biennale will commence on June 1st (Saturday), the same day as the opening of Aman Canal Grande Venice. The new Aman is situated in San Polo, the smallest of Venice's six historic districts, known for its palaces, churches, and markets. This district overlooks the Grand Canal, offering views of St. Mark's Square and St. Mark's Basilica, and is seamlessly integrated into the city's magnificent history.

The Biennale Runs from June 1st (Saturday) to November 24th (Sunday)

Romantic gondola rides drifting along picturesque canals, cappuccinos savored in the quiet stillness of an early morning piazza, churches that evoke reflections on history──From the moment of arrival, guests are captivated by the allure of this destination.

Aman Canal Grande Venice offers guests exclusive canal tours, allowing them to explore Venice via routes entirely free from tourist traffic congestion on the water, accessible by both road and waterway. Furthermore, the San Polo district, near the Aman, is rich with attractions, including the Rialto Bridge and the Church of San Giacomo di Rialto. St. Mark's Square and St. Mark's Basilica are a short boat ride away. The location is also convenient for accessing various event venues related to the Venice Biennale.

A Space Befitting an Elegant Introduction to "Aman-journey"

Aman Canal Grande Venice comprises two five-story buildings, one of which, a “Palazzo” featuring 24 suites, was constructed in the 16th century by the architect Gian Giacomo de Grigi. Known as Palazzo Papadopoli, this building was originally commissioned by the Coccina family of Bergamo, but was later named after the brothers Nicolo and Angelo Papadopoli Aldobrandini, who purchased the property in the early 19th century.

They entrusted the interior design of the Palazzo's main living spaces to Michelangelo Guggenheim, a leading figure in Neo-Renaissance and Rococo architecture. Guggenheim renovated the spaces, transforming the Palazzo into a prime example of Venetian architecture. The brothers subsequently acquired two adjacent buildings and established two gardens within the grounds.

Guests arrive at the hotel by navigating the canals, a fitting mode of transport in this city of water. Upon disembarking, they are greeted by a reception hall with high ceilings adorned with historical frescoes and reliefs—a space that elegantly ushers in the "Aman-journey."

Views of Venice from the Rooftop Terrace

Ascending two floors via a gracefully curved spiral staircase from the reception hall leads to the "Piano Nobile," the main floor of Renaissance architecture. This area serves as the Palazzo's largest salon, offering Italian and Asian cuisine.

The main room, with its large glass windows, overlooks the Grand Canal. Two private rooms, named for their predominant colors of yellow and red, offer views of the Grand Canal and the resort's garden terrace. The bar area also provides a tranquil view of the Grand Canal.

On the fourth floor, a salon and library offer light refreshments and drinks with views of the Grand Canal in a luxurious and relaxed atmosphere. Exclusive guest facilities include the "Stanza del Tiepolo," for board games like chess, and the "Stanza del Guarana," available for private dining and meetings. The rooftop terrace, accessible by elevator, provides a breathtaking panorama of Venice.

The garden terrace facing the Grand Canal is one of the few private gardens along the canal, hosting open-air "Garden Dinners" during the summer. Aman also features another serene private garden surrounded by trees, serving as a tranquil space for guests and a pleasant walking route towards the San Polo district.
