Having sold over 130 million albums,his new album "The Next Day," released on January 8th, his 66th birthday, after a 10-year hiatusand ranking high on music charts worldwide, David Bowie shows no signs of slowing down. The major retrospective "David Bowie Is," which opened at London's Victoria and Albert Museum in March, was extended until August due to overwhelming popularity.
The catalog for this highly popular exhibition is finally arriving in Japanese on Wednesday, July 10th. In homage to "1984" from the album "Diamond Dogs," only 1,984 copies of the first edition will be published in Japan. Furthermore, the price is set at 6,900 yen, a nod to rock, showcasing meticulous attention to detail throughout.
The contents include original artwork and photographs for record jackets, stage costumes, stills from films he appeared in, handwritten lyrics, and a wealth of personal items displayed for the first time globally, making it a coveted item for fans. The contributors include leading British writers such as Camille Paglia, author of "Sex, Art, and American Culture" (1995, Kawade Shobo Shinsha), and Jon Savage, author of "England's Dreaming: An Illustrated History of Punk Rock" (1999, Mainichi Shimbun Publishing). The Japanese translation is handled by Momoko Nonaka, known for "Girl Gene" and "Post Punk Generation 1978-1984."
