A Three-Month Online Event to Learn Mindfulness from Basics to Practice
As the coronavirus continues its global spread, individuals are experiencing stress and anxiety due to lifestyle changes, such as limiting outings to essential travel and shifting to remote work. In response to these challenging times, Russell Mindfulness Entertainment Japan (hereinafter referred to as Russell) has decided to offer the online event "the urban silence -ONLINE-" free of charge. This event will introduce mindfulness, a practice scientifically proven to contribute to mental well-being and known to enhance concentration and beauty.
Mindfulness is a non-religious technique for stress management, developed in the United States based on neuroscience. Research from Harvard University indicates that practicing mindfulness enhances happiness. In recent years, it has gained widespread recognition, with many prominent American companies, celebrities, and athletes adopting its principles. Various researchers have scientifically demonstrated that practicing mindfulness can improve immunity, reduce stress, and contribute to beauty and youthfulness.
Beginning April 16, 2020, this online event will run for three months, with sessions held every Thursday from 7 PM to 8 PM (tentative). The program will cover mindfulness from its fundamentals to practical application, featuring seminars and meditations led by various instructors.
Russell's websiteis now accepting registrations.
Studies by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts and Dr. Ann Harrington of Harvard University have shown that practicing mindfulness meditation for a certain period can enhance immune function.

Furthermore, many report increased stress and anxiety due to restrictions on going out. Practicing mindfulness for a period has been shown to reduce stress and negative emotions. A study published in "The American Journal of Psychiatry" in 1992 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical School revealed that mindfulness reduces anxiety and depression. In an eight-week mindfulness program for participants diagnosed with anxiety or panic disorders, the Beck Anxiety Inventory scores decreased by an average of 65%, and Beck Depression Inventory scores decreased by an average of 49% after the practice.

Additionally, scientific evidence suggests that yoga and meditation can have positive effects on beauty. Telomeres, structures on the ends of chromosomes, protect DNA from damage during cell division. They shorten with each division, and when they reach a critical length, cell division ceases. The shortening of telomeres is linked to aging and lifespan. Maintaining telomere length is believed to contribute to anti-aging, longevity, and beauty.
A research team at the University of California published findings indicating that increasing the enzyme telomerase, which repairs telomeres, can lengthen them. This process is also associated with a greater sense of purpose in life, perceived control, and reduced stress responses. Mindfulness meditation has been linked to an increase in telomerase. Therefore, mindfulness meditation and yoga, by reducing stress and regulating the body's cycles, can be expected to contribute to maintaining youthfulness and beauty.
