Resonance (Like) or Disconnection (Block): The Beginning and Present of Communication Through 'Words'

School Nalanda is a new learning space that offers cross-disciplinary wisdom for navigating modern life, featuring esteemed instructors at the forefront of diverse fields such as Buddhism, science, art, and philosophy, fostering interactive dialogue.
The name 'School Nalanda' is inspired by the Nalanda Mahavihara, an ancient Buddhist monastery in Northern India that flourished in the 5th century. 'Nalanda' signifies a place of lotuses, symbols of wisdom. The school aims to be a new learning environment where participants can gain cross-disciplinary wisdom for contemporary life from fields including Buddhism, science, art, and philosophy, engaging in interactive dialogue and hands-on experiences. A key feature is that young people, around the same age as the participants, are involved in the planning and operation as 'Team Nalanda'.
This time, a stellar lineup of instructors has gathered.
This edition features instructors such as Morley Robertson, Kazuo Okanoya, Kodo Nishimura, Chiki Ogiue, Ken Kanakozawa, and monks from the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha, who will explore the origins, present, and future of 'words' as their central theme.
Furthermore, alongside lectures, special experiential programs will be offered, including a craft workshop to learn the techniques of 'Ise-katamigami,' a nationally designated traditional craft, a dance workshop, and a lunch featuring representative local cuisine from the Tokai region, a treasure trove of culinary delights.
On March 5th, Ken Kanakozawa, also known as 'KanoKen,' a dancer born with a hearing impairment, will lead a session exploring how to convey and receive emotions through dance, a form of communication beyond words, with participants engaging in physical activities to experience this firsthand.
