A Modern Take on Popular Post-War Showa Era Cocktails by Atsushi Suzuki
"Jigger Collective" is a project by Pernod Ricard Japan that partners with emerging bartenders and creators who master the "jigger," a measuring tool used in cocktail making, to create cocktails using spirits with unique brand stories.
The new featured artist is Atsushi Suzuki, a bartender at "The Bellwood," a bar in Tokyo's Shibuya district with a concept of a modern "café" from 100 years ago, who has also won international cocktail competitions.
Under the initiative "Cocktail Voice @ The Bellwood meets Jigger Collective," which proposes new ways to enjoy bars during the pandemic, ASMR content stimulating the auditory senses and YouTube video content are being rolled out. Suzuki presents three original cocktails, inspired by popular recipes from the early days of cocktail culture in Japan, for enjoyment through sound and visuals.
The cocktails include a "Hot Toddy" made with Chivas Regal Mizunara 12 Year Old, which might have been served in a café 100 years ago, and a "Kaikan Fizz" made with Monkey 47 Dry Gin, a classic cocktail born in Japan in 1945, shortly after the war.
Furthermore, a "Margarita" reimagined with Olmeca Altos Plata, inspired by the "moga" (modern girls) who appeared in Tokyo in the 1920s, has been created with a focus on aromatic and flavorful enhancements, and will be unveiled online.
These contents are presented in a fictional setting where a fictional bar, "The Bellwood," existed in Tokyo 100 years ago, and its bartender, "Atsukichi Suzuki," introduces the cocktail-making process, recipes, and the unique origin stories of cocktails from pre- and post-war eras. The content is designed to be enjoyable even for those who have never visited a bar before.
In addition to the audio and visual content, these cocktails can also be enjoyed at the bar "The Bellwood" in Shibuya.
Enjoy the ASMR sounds of pouring spirits and shaking shakers, and YouTube videos that allow you to watch the bartender's graceful movements from a perspective as if you were sitting at the bar counter. Experience the full ambiance of a bar from the comfort of your home.
