EVENT | MASHING UP conference vol.5
Featuring young international entrepreneurs drawing global attention. A lineup of speakers offering significant inspiration.
The conference "MASHING UP conference vol.5," which considers the shape of a new society with key players shaping the future, will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021. This conference will feature two young international entrepreneurs as keynote speakers. In addition, business leaders and experts active on the front lines will gather for talk sessions, providing attendees with significant inspiration.
The theme for Vol. 5 is "What Kind of Sustainable Society is Next?" Finding hints for a new societal form through dialogue.
MASHING UP is a media and community that picks up on social issues from a female perspective and discusses them.
Starting with the promotion of female empowerment and diversity, the conference has provided participants with opportunities to take new steps, build new networks, and gain business insights by mashing up different genders, ages, nationalities, occupations, and industries.
The theme for this, the fifth iteration, is "RETHINK, REBUILD. Building Sustainable Systems for All." In an era where business is increasingly seeking humanity, we are now at a stage of re-examining the quality of diversity and inclusion. This conference features various sessions designed to provide hints for discovering new societal forms through dialogue, even in uncertain times.
The keynote speakers this time are two young international entrepreneurs, Rebecca Hui and Heather Barnaby.
Rebecca Hui is the CEO of Roots Studio, a marketplace that digitizes cultural heritage, such as art, created by indigenous peoples worldwide into intellectual property and connects them with global buyers. Additionally, she collaborates with MIT and the World Bank on joint research on cultural sustainability with governments worldwide, and as a National Geographic Explorer, she documents human-animal coexistence from rural to urban areas, engaging in a wide range of activities.
Heather Barnaby is the CEO of FORA, which provides decision-making support for young women and networking communities for female leaders. She has unique experience from her role in Corporate Relations and Strategic Partnerships for the Vancouver Organizing Committee of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In addition, many timely sessions that you will want to hear right now are scheduled. To give just a few examples, the following sessions are planned, making it difficult to choose which one to attend.
• What I'm Thinking Now: ESG Management and New Leadership
In a situation where internal reforms are urgently needed for companies to achieve sustainable growth, how should management motivate their organizations and drive change? This session will explore what kind of governance is required by hearing directly from the leaders of major corporations.
• Creating a Kinder Society Through DX: Challenges We Need to Take On
In Japan, facing various challenges such as regional disparities, gender gaps, and diversity, how can digital technology realize a world where individual happiness is respected and everyone can pursue their passions? This session will consider what countries, companies, and individuals can do to build a more compassionate society.
• Innovation 2022
With the Japanese economy facing numerous challenges, including shrinking markets due to the pandemic and population decline, and declining competitiveness in the global market, expectations are rising for those who can lead new businesses. This session will explore the front lines of innovation that drives the economy and society, using examples of business models born from recent open innovation.
The sessions by innovators and experts active in various fields will be a great source of inspiration and motivation. We encourage you to attend and find hints for pioneering a new society.
