All 15 Volumes of "Hokusai Manga" Exhibited at the 6th Floor

"Welcome to the World of Hokusai Manga" began on August 12th. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Mitsuru Urakami, representative of Urakami Asobidō, who cooperated with the exhibition's organization,Mr. Mitsuru Urakami, representative of Urakami Asobidōstated, "Over the past 25 years, approximately 40 venues have hosted 'Hokusai Manga' exhibitions. Hokusai Manga is a type of Ukiyo-e, and Ukiyo-e was a commercial art of its time. I believe it is fitting that Mitsukoshi is now utilizing the essence of Hokusai Manga to create products and host events related to Edo."

In addition to the exhibition and sale of over 80 "Hokusai Manga" works in the Main Building's 1st-floor Central Hall, all 15 volumes of "Hokusai Manga" will be specially displayed on the 6th floor. A representative from Mitsukoshi's art department explained, "These framed works, cut from rare Edo-printed editions of 'Hokusai Manga,' are all first-class pieces suitable for museum display. With the cooperation of Mr. Mitsuru Urakami, we are selling these select works for the first time at Mitsukoshi."

"The prices are mainly around 300,000 yen, which is affordable for art pieces. We encourage you to purchase your favorite designs to display at home. Beyond the exhibition and sale of artworks, you can experience the atmosphere of Edo through various activities, including workshops where you can try traditional crafts and manufacturing techniques."

Reproducing Edo at the "Echigoya of Nihonbashi" Depicted in Hokusai's Art

At the "Eitaisakurasetsugetsu Ka Hyōchaya" in the 1st-floor Central Hall, shaved ice with a smooth texture and satisfying crunch is available. You can enjoy the "Kōri Ujikintoki," which evokes the atmosphere of Edo and a sense of coolness. On the basement 1st floor, in the Western confectionery section, sweets are sold in limited-edition packaging under the theme "HOKUSAI and Blue Revolution." Also noteworthy are the related products, such as the "suteteko" (undergarments) and furoshiki (wrapping cloths) created in collaboration by art director Kazuya Takaoka and the renowned Kyoto yuzen textile maker "Okaju," as well as the Hokusai mandala-patterned cardigan by the brand "IKIJI."

Various events are scheduled throughout the weekend, and the entire store is designed to convey the charm of "Hokusai Manga" through coordinated interior decorations. We invite you to experience the world of "Hokusai Manga" and Edo culture, which continues to influence artists worldwide, while feeling the "present moment" of Edo as captured by Katsushika Hokusai.
