Grapes Grown in Southern England's Unique Chalk Soil Terroir
Louis Pommery England, a sparkling wine brewed in England, was born as an homage to the achievements of Louis Alexandre Pommery, the founder of Champagne Pommery.
Parts of southern England were once connected to the Champagne region of France before the Ice Age. It is also known for its mineral-rich chalk soil. Furthermore, due to recent global warming, the climate is said to have become similar to that of Champagne in the past.
Consequently, the Vranken Pommery Monopole group, which owns Pommery, purchased land in Hampshire, UK, an area that has garnered significant attention as a terroir comparable to that of the Champagne region. Under the supervision of current Pommery Cellar Master Clément Pierlot and others, they have focused on producing sparkling wine.
Louis Pommery England, crafted from grapes grown in the unique chalk soil terroir of southern England and aged for a sufficient period, initially offers freshness and delicate lime aromas, followed by the scent of white fruits with hints of honey. These aromas unfold on the palate, leading to a rich harmony. This taste seems to pair wonderfully with fresh oysters or afternoon tea.
Pommery's style expressed through England's terroir. Enjoy a comparative tasting with regular Pommery or explore food pairings.
