A Culinary Event Amplifying the Charm of Shibuya's Food Scene

Four commercial facilities in Shibuya Ward—'Shibuya Hikarie' and 'Shibuya Stream' operated by Tokyu Corporation, 'Shibuya Scramble Square' operated by Shibuya Scramble Square Inc., and 'Tokyu Plaza Shibuya' operated by Tokyu Land SC Management (collectively, the 'Four Facilities')—are holding their first joint restaurant support fair, 'Let's Enjoy Onomatopoeia! Shibuya Gourmet Fair,' until Thursday, September 30, 2021.

Aiming to support restaurants facing difficult conditions amid the pandemic, the event features a total of 52 participating restaurants within the Four Facilities and the Shibuya Station East Exit Underground Plaza, all adhering to strict infection control measures. They are offering 69 limited-time menus themed around the various sounds and expressions of food: onomatopoeia.
Onomatopoeia refers to words that imitate sounds or describe states, such as 'hee hee' for spicy food or 'pari pari' (crispy) and 'atsu atsu' (piping hot) to describe food's texture and temperature. Participating restaurants are offering limited-time menus bearing these appetite-stimulating onomatopoeic names in three price tiers (¥1,000, ¥1,500, and ¥2,000, all tax-inclusive), designed for broad enjoyment.
Offerings include lunch menus with drinks, tasting sets, and takeout options for enjoyment at home. A diverse array of delicious dishes awaits, designed to evoke the very onomatopoeia featured in their names with every bite, engaging all five senses.
This event is curated by Yuhi Komiyama, CEO (Chief Eat Officer) of 'Delicious Shibuya Ward,' a project aimed at broadly promoting the culinary appeal of Shibuya Ward, enhancing the district's overall charm, and revitalizing the local community.
Komiyama, who debuted in 1996 as the vocalist and keyboardist for Hoff Dylan, also serves as an external advisor for various communities and corporations beyond his music career. With a deep knowledge of food, he has authored three curry recipe books and two books on izakayas, alongside numerous serialized articles. He is a musician and a producer of sound, food, and space.
He, also a Shibuya Ward tourism ambassador, describes Shibuya as "its charm lies precisely in its diversity, a place where various people and cultures converge." Regarding the current gourmet fair, he commented, "'Delicious' isn't just one thing. This is a support fair for restaurants where you can experience diverse 'deliciousness' across four facilities that represent Shibuya's face. Please enjoy eating a variety of dishes and discover your ultimate 'delicious'!
